Author Topic: How do I get floating processes from secondary monitor to the primary one?  (Read 2707 times)

As a newbie, I can't seem to drag process windows from my secondary PI monitor to the primary PI monitor. For example, I can't drag the STF window but I can drag a new instance of it. I want to be able to put shaded processes on the pirmary monitor to one side beyond the yellow line but can't.

Why is this non-intuitive, restrictive and annoying behaviour happening and how do I stop it?

Hi jgwyther, welcome to the forum.
I do not use windows and also have only one monitor so cannot give you too much help, but I believe that if you expand PixInsight in the way that the workspace covers the two monitors you will be able to move icons, tools or images without problems.
Hope this helps,
Saludos, Alejandro.

Thanks Alejandro.

Yes you can use this approach but it hides all other windows in use which hinders my workflow. For example, as I wade through the task of learning to use PI, I have Keller's Inside PI book open, my astro log book Word document open to record my thoughts and findings and also several browser windows open.

I explored the problem a bit more and have found that it works under some circumstances. Here is the situation:

  • Laptop Asus running Windows 8.1, primary monitor 1920x1280.
  • Secondary monitor 1920x1280 physically and logically sits above laptop monitor.
  • PI always seems to open most (but not all) script and process windows on the primary monitor even though it is running on the secondary monitor.
  • If the second monitor is logically to the left or right of the primary monitor (under Windows Screen Resolution menu), I can move PI icons easily from to the other. However, this is unnatural with the physical placing of the monitors.
  • If the second is logically above or below the primary in Windows SR menu, the PI icons are "trapped" on the primary monitor.
I understand that PI is built using a run-time platform independent tool but this should not, IMHO, mean that basic Windows functions do not work.

cheers

IIRC only side-by-side monitors are supported by PI.

this post is from 2009, but may still be accurate:
