Need help with workflow with OSC with combining Ha
« on: 2016 September 06 06:04:07 »
I am currently using attic 460 OSC and trying to combine seperate Ha data lights that I also shot with same camera.  I am aware of scripts, however. Here is my confusion. Do I do two seperate BPP. One for  RGB and Ha separately? Than do I do a star Alignment with the two separatly generated light files (1. RGB master 2. Ha master). When I try star Alignment it doesn't register two files. I just seem to get one blended file. Any suggestion on work flow would be aprreciated.

Thank you.

Hi, I am not using an OSC so I can just give some reasonable suggestions.

1) I prefer to have two master darks for RGB and ha, because the exposure in my case is very different. If your camera is temp controlled, I would do the same.
2) I align all the frames in one shot, before building the masters (combined). I use one of the ha frames as a reference (for sure you will find the "ha stars" in the RGB frame)
3) I combine the masters, in your case  RGB and ha.

Do you color calibrate before or after running the script to combine RGB and HA?

Also do you use the whole HA master or breakout the red channel or luminance Chanel only in the HA part of script.

Thank you

Hi Peety,
the following is what personnaly do the majority of times, don't take  it too seroiusly :-) (it's only what works best for me)

I don't use a script to combine Ha & RGB.
I usually work with pixelmath in linear state, applying different methods derived from "vicent's techiniques".

if I decide to blend also Ha in L, I run this step after delinearization.

I always run DBE, BN, CC at the very beginning in linear state.
A new step of BN si required after the blend to correct for Ha signal transferred in the background (that depends on how well blending and masks are carried out .

Thanks so much for your help. I am still vey confused. Is there a tutorial on doing RGB with HA with OSC anywhere to learn from? I am not very clear how to use pixinsight math. I am also Not sure what you mean from Vicents techniiques? Any guidance would be helpful.

Hi,
Vicent wrote 1-2 papers on haRGB combine and there are threads in the forum that discuss at list the first approach.

basically it is based on 2 pixelmath expressions that allow you to enhance the red channel with some ha, preserving the RGB information on the stars.
Harry had (and should still have) a video that show the process.

if you are working with the NBRGB combination script, you are doing more or less the same.
As far as I know the script is based on the same concept.

if you can build an RGB and ha file, I think you can use it.

I am sorry I don't know a specific tutorial for OSC...

Hi,

Currently I have many different techniques to combine narrow and broad band images, some of them designed to work with linear images and some others with non-linear images; some others that affect the lightness and some others that affect the chrominance. But I never use (and never teach) the use of automated tools for these techniques.

If you're interested, you'll have to wait until I release those techniques on-line (I'm producing this material), or you can come to my workshops.

Best regards,
Vicent.
