PI 1.8.4.1195 crashes when opening or saving image
« on: 2015 December 20 13:56:37 »
I updated today, and I can't open or save individual images, or open project files from within PI.  I can open a project file if PI is not already running (by double-clicking on that project file).  When I click on Open or Save, a Win Explorer box opens, but then PI crashes, and I get the report below.  This is Windows 8.1.   I tried all the usual things - uninstall/reinstall with reboot, but no change.  Any ideas?  I reverted to 1.08.03.1123, which seems to be working without trouble.

Are you running PI on a Dell computer? If so, this posting may help: http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=9190.0

Thanks Sean.  Yes, that's exactly it.  I'm a non-technical type (the bane of programmers everywhere  :) ) and of the suggestions given by Juan in that thread, the only one I felt comfortable doing was to uncheck Edit>Global Prefs>File IO Settings>Use native file dialogs.  No luck, though.  When opening/saving, PI reports "no disk in drive," and clicking through eventually yields "PCL Win 32 system exception."  Sigh.  It's really surprising Dell has done nothing to solve this.  I'll have to stay with 1.8.3 for now.

I cranked up my risk tolerance one notch and followed Juan's first suggestion, to remove Dell Backup and Recovery, and that seems to have solved the problem.  I set the File IO Settings back to use native file dialogs, and it still seems to run fine, so I'll leave it as is for now.  Thanks Sean.
