Rob,

That's basically right. For me and others that have older Sony Nex-5's it's an IR-Wireless intervalometer and no USB option for control of the camera. Strictly save to a memory card. We work with what we have. Better then the old days of gassing film for a higher ASA.

A few notes from Devil's Island on the continuing saga of getting the D800 to behave.  A new cable really did not solve the problem.  With the Maxim DL v6 I can get anywhere from 40-100% of a run of 10 images collected.  There is some sort of intermittent problem that I cannot find.  I have to upgrade the Nikon firmware to rule that out.  I am one cycle old.

On the other hand, I am recording multiple files with DigiCamControl... this is still Beta but they seem responsive.  They have dithering through PhD guiding.

One other possible trick is to run CCDComander/Maxim and to collect 1-2 images at a time repeatedly.

Cloudy here so cannot try anything.

Hello,

If you need one software to control Nikon use www.camerarc.com, good application and low cost with update all the time.

I use the CameraRC with Nikon D600 in my session, no problems.

Regards,

Leandro

Just a vote of confidence for this software.  Very reliable.  Still need a good way to capture flats.  SkyFlat Assistant has not worked with ver 6 maxim.

Hi,

I've been fiddling around with PI lately and after some initial problems I find it a lot easier and more reliable to use than some of the other progs I have been using.

However, I ran into the following error message a few times as well : "Zero or insignificant signal detected (empty image?)"

I did a few test shots with my D810 300mm lens pointed at Orion and tried to stack them. My process is as follows:

- Created a master bias
- Debayered the original NEF files using the batch debayer script
- Calibrated the debayered lights using the master bias and the ImageCalibration process
- Registered the resulting fit files using the StarAlignment process
- Integrated the registered files using the ImageRegistration process

During the integration I keep getting the above error message for some of my files.

Below is a screenshot of the linear and streched images after calibration and after registration. On the bottom right is also the stretched image of the debayered NEF.

The stretched registered image appears rather "empty" so the error message is surely correct. Other images that have been taken a few seconds before or after this one do show details in the SPF view.
I wonder why this happens with some images but not with others. As these are only test shots and I do have many of them it does not really matter whether some images fail to register it could be frustrating however if you have fewer long exposure shots.

Am I doing anything wrong or does it have to do with the internal raw processing of the D810 ? I would really like to understand what is going on.

Thanks
Rob
