all capture details are on astrobin, nevertheless :
62 lights (but 57 used) ; 2 min each. 800iso. 300mm f/5.6 (on a f/4 lens)

I do use a bulb release / no software & pc on field (yet... ;-) )

Thanks.  What is BPP?

I have tried again with the latest version of Maxim DL, and it still fails to capture images > 30s.

isnt the > 30s problem a nikon thing? meaning you need special software from nikon (that costs money) to do exposures longer than 30s?

i don't know this for a fact, i have just heard it here and there. i think BackyardNIK should overcome this problem, but i have not been following it since BinaryRivers abandoned their yahoo group and shifted to forums.

Let me tell you this is a story.

I reread and Zang uses the bulb release...

So, Maxim 6 does not work with the USB cable, but it was sorta working in 5, but not for long sequences of images.  I have complained again.

I heard SequenceGenerator Pro works with USB (no it does not).

WHWang uses some opensource software that obviously works for him with USB but I recall it did not integrate with other software, for mount control.

BackYard NIKON worked in its Beta form with USB, have not checked to see where that is.

NIKON has their own proprietary SDK and APIs etc etc and I think you have to register with them as a developer to get access.  They have their own expensive remote control software... hence I think they poison the pot a bit.  Really worked for SONY, right.

I do not know what BPP is... next chapter in this mystery.

PS  I have so much light pollution the images I have gotten in the Bay Area are pretty much washed out... but maybe with good flats and darks.

BPP is the BatchPreProcessing script for doing calibration and alignment of your subs.

the only thing that can be done about the LP is to either shoot very narrow narrowband or if doing RGB, you need to do 10s of hours of integration time and lots and lots of careful DBE. for me i can't actually use an L filter when pointed toward san jose; the LP overwhelms even short exposures. if pointed north or east things are a little better.

EDIT : Oh sorry I did not see that it was already answered.
As for the other parts of your messages, I must confess I cannot understand a single word.  It would be the same if you were speaking chinese ;)

Jerome,

Have you posted about the capture over USB to the SGP team? They often can find SDK packs that they haven't released in their public software and have you try that.

Pfile, I use a Promise intervalometer on my D800.  It will do time lapse, sequences... it even handles LDNR and mirror lockup. It's spend but it runs on 4 AAA batteries and is considerably more user friendly than dragging a laptop with me.

but then i guess you can't do any dithering if you use an intervalometer?

Rob,

If your guiding you could still be using an intervalometer for the shutter so you could still dither.

I have been struggling to get my D800 to work with Maxim but has been crashing intermittently... same with other software.  Yesterday on Wei's suggestion I went down to the local camera store and bought a new USB cable ($20).  They said this was a special off-market (non-Nikon) cable.  I have been collecting darks now for hours and had only one crash...  I hope it was the Nikon cable.

If this works. will be able to attach it to my Atlas and Tak and use my old Orion Starshoot autoguider with Maxim in the second camera slot.  Then will dither.

The other software should also work if it was the cable... please be the cable dear Lord.... :)

Mike

so you can control the guider software with the intervalometer? i am talking about automatic dithering here.

Sorry Rob, I was thinking manual dithering.

You could control it via the intervalometer I have.  It gives you control via software while you're guiding via a laptop.

so then basically the intervalometer functions as a USB shutter release? newer canon cameras support this out-of-the-box.

Hello,

If you need one software to control Nikon use www.camerarc.com, good application and low cost with update all the time.

I use the CemraRC with Nikon D600 in my session, no problems.

Leandro
