1.8RC6 fails to create JavaScript context
« on: 2013 April 22 20:32:58 »
Hi Juan,

On 1.8RC6 initialization (build 1012), second line is "Failed to create the JavaScript context." Then, all scripts fail with,
"The JavaScript runtime has not been initialized."

I am running:
Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2, 32-bit.

I does this on a clean install (old version uninstalled prior to installing RC6).

Cheers,
Edward Kort

Ok, this appears to be a false alarm.

After rebooting the computer, JavaScript initialized properly and the scripts ran with no error.

It seems that a reboot is necessary to properly register/invoke the JavaScript components.

I don't recall seeing a reboot recommendation in the installation instructions, but I could have missed it.

Anyway, all is good, and I'm a happy camper.

Cheers,

Hi Edward,

This problem is reproducible. It only happens in the 32-bit Windows version of PI 1.8.0 RC6. In a couple hours I'll upload a new version, build 2013, which fixes this issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.

In the meanwhile, the workaround is: Run the 32-bit PI Core application. If the JavaScript context fails, exit the application, wait for a few seconds, and run it again. Usually it will work without problems after 2 - 4 attempts.

Thanks, Juan.

RC7 fixed the issue, which had become terminal in RC6.

Is this fixed for sure now?  I want to upgrade but the upgrade deletes my menu customizations so I want to be sure before upgrading.

Thanks
