Hi,
I have installed the last available versiĆ³n of PixInsight 1.8.5 Ripley avalable in the downloads section. The installation was OK but when I double-clicked the PI icon the program does not start, my laptop seems to start to do something but then stops and Pixinsight does not start.

My laptop has an Intel Core I5-4200M 2.50 Ghz processor, 4 Gb of RAM and windows 7 professional servipack 1 64-bits.

I have desinstalled and reinstalled PixInsight but no solution was found.

Please, can you help me?

Thanks

Fernando

Hi,

I have seen this happen.  Try this, right-click on the PI icon and then select "Open"

Since no one has replied, I'll take a wild guess.  Do you have the current Java runtime engine?  You might try downloading it and installing it and see what happens.  I am thinking maybe you have a damaged Java runtime environment.  Just a wild guess though.

Java is not required by PI. No need to install it. Did you check the system requirements http://pixinsight.com/sysreq/index.html ? They state that Win7 has limited support only. Do you use an anti virus? Maybe temporarily deactivate it during installation.

That is very likely to be it.

Thank for all your responses. I have tried to desactivate antivirus temporally and resinatall PI. right-click and open but no one works. I have found and error file (C:\temp\WER5051.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml)  generated by windows to report errors. It said the following:

Does someone have idea about it?

It seems that it refers to an APPCRASH eventype related to PixInsight.exe

Thanks in advance

Hmm....
Maybe some problem with the graphics driver? Can you try to start PI with some special options:

C:\Program Files\PixInsight\bin>PixInsight --no-share-opengl-contexts
C:\Program Files\PixInsight\bin>PixInsight --opengl=raster

Just a wild guess.

Thank you Georg,

I have tried your recommendations without success. I do not know what to do... I will think about it.

It has to do with the QuickTime5 graphics system used by PixInsight.

If I were you I would e-mail PixInsight for support, or use the "Bug reports" topic in the forum.

Qt is not QuickTime...

Sorry, my mistake.  It is the QT portable GUI system.

I see a lot of web sites offering to "fix" QT5WebEngineCore.dll but have no idea which ones are trustworthy.
