Dealing with NaNs in a FITs image
« on: 2010 September 03 11:26:34 »
Hello all,

I've been using PixInsight for just over a year now as the Science Imager for the Chandra X-ray Observatory and feel like I'm just barely scratching the surface of what it can do.  One problem that I routinely run into when loading FITs files into PI is that images with NaN values fail to load.  I have a python script that converts those values to numbers so the images will load in PI, but is there another workaround for this?

Thanks!
Joe

Hi Joe,

Welcome to PixInsight Forum. Which version of PixInsight do you have? This problem is supposed to be fixed in version 1.6.1. In the latest version, non-numeric IEEE entities are replaced with zeros by the FITS and TIFF modules.

To check your current version, enter the 'version' command in the processing console window, or select Help > About PixInsight.

Thanks for the quick response!  I do have version 1.6.1 and I guess I haven't tried to load this type of file since upgrading because it does work now!  What an easy fix :)  Thanks!
