IC 1396 in H-alpha
« on: 2011 August 02 23:15:08 »
To all,

Mother Nature offered me another window of imaging during this New Moon.  I took seventeen images over three nights.  After analyzing the individual images, I was left with fifteen images to integrate.  All processing, outside calibration, was done in PixInsight Standard v1.7.  Basically, the steps were deconvolution, histogram transfer, noise reduction, star reduction and HDR.  I sharpened the images for web display so hopefully I didn't get too carried away. I used a FLI Proline 16803, an Astrodon 5nm H-alpha filter, and a Takahashi FSQ-106ED.

The composition is a little tight since I wanted to get B169 in the upper left.  Given the tightness, I'll try to shoot a two frame mosaic next time.  Unfortunately, I didn't realize there was a bright star just outside the field of view in the upper left.  I'll pay closer attention next time.

I may need to stretch it a little more.  Let me know what you think.

Very nice Wade, I do not think it requires anything else.

Talk about "wow factor".  Great contrast, tight stars.  Lovely Ha image.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

I hope to capture another target in August.  At this time, I don't have a target in mind.  I'm open to suggestions.  What would you like to see in h-alpha taken with the FSQ-106ED?
