Pixinsight in OSX Lion
« on: 2011 July 22 04:34:14 »
Hi all.

Has anyone tested PI in the new Apple OS yet? I would like to make sure I don't mess up my astro processing software before I upgrade!

Many thanks

John

Hi John

I have upgraded to Lion yesterday on one of my macs and I have noticed that PI 1.7 (64bits)  is very prone to crash on quit but not in the program itself . I have not investigated this so far.

My mac is a Mini core2duo 2ghz 4 gb ram 115gb SSD

By the way, I have a question for the developper(s). I'm sending a report to apple each time PI crash. Do you get some info from apple about that ?

I am very interested in knowing your experiences with PixInsight on Mac OS X Lion. I am now on vacation (so to say) and have no Mac computer at hand, so my first tests with Lion will happen in September.

I have tried to do everything I can to avoid compatibility problems with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion in PixInsight 1.7. So there should be no problems. However, with Apple one can never be sure that things will work on one of their new releases. They call this 'innovation' :)

That shouldn't happen. Does that happen also in the 32-bit version?

No, of course we get absolutely nothing from Apple. Better don't send any reports; they probably could be 'useful for us' in ways that we don't want to be useful at all -- you get what I mean, right? :)

Since the 64-bit version was very stable for me I didn't install the 32-bit version but I will and will report my observations here

Oki  and if I copy the error log and send it to you directly ?

Hi,

I tried PI 1.7 on MacOS Lion on my 2010 iMac and it froze (reproducible) the whole mac. I tried it 4 times in a row and it always froze.

PI 1.6 works flawless by the way.

Best,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Welcome to PixInsight Forum.

This is really strange. There is no reason I can figure out for PI 1.7 to 'freeze' your computer on Mac OS X 10.7. Anybody is experiencing the same behavior? Anybody successfully running PI 1.7 on Mac OS X Lion?

Unfortunately, I can't do anything to fix any problem on Mac OS X until September. I'm sorry for that.

Hi Juan,

no problem. If I had to guess, the problem is not PI, its Lion. I cannot think of any possible way to crash the OS by accident in a user level program like PI.

Best,
Andreas

Hi

I have upgraded to Lion. It has required one 'force quit' and that was trying to run cosmetic correction other wise it is great. Lion has speeded up my machine noticeably.

Julian

Just moved PI 1.7 to my new iMac running Lion. PI (64 bit) runs great, very fast, but crashes each time on exit.

Are you running the 64 or 32 bit version of PI?

Thanks,
