Trial version crash in Ubuntu 10
« on: 2010 December 15 12:38:53 »
Hello,

I have just downloaded the trial version of Pixinsight and it crashes as soon as I enter the program (cometimes it works for a few second but when I try do to something it closes). The message I get into the console is:

Welcome to PixInsight. Started 2010 Dec 15 20:36:16 J2455546.35852 UTC

* Parallel processing enabled: Using 4 logical processors.
* Thread CPU affinity control enabled.
* PSM AutoSave enabled. Auto-save period: 30 seconds.

** No running X11 compositing manager has been detected. Some core GUI functionality will be reduced or unavailable.

I have enabled desktop effects and the message dissapeared.

The message I get in my terminal after the crash is:

alex@alex-Aspire-7745G:~/pixinsight$ ./bin/PixInsight.sh

PixInsight Core 01.06.01.0625 (x86)
Copyright (C) 2003-2010 Pleiades Astrophoto

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'pcl::EUnixSegmentationViolation'
./bin/PixInsight.sh: line 9:  2276 Aborted                 $dirname/$appname $*
alex@alex-Aspire-7745G:~/pixinsight$

Do you have any idea what might cause this?

Thanks!!

I'm almost sure that this is the same problem reported before. Search the forum for Ubuntu and Fedora crashes. At the end, it is just a problem with the libz libraries, and you need to move them elsewhere.

Hi Alex,

Unfortunately, the current version 1.6.1 of PixInsight for 32-bit Linux does not work well. This is due to a mistake I made when I compiled the core executable. PI 1.6.1 works perfectly on 64-bit Linux distributions as well as on the rest of platforms (FreeBSD, Mac OS X and Windows, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions).

The new version 1.6.9 fixes all of these problems. The release is imminent, so I just ask for a bit of patience. In the meanwhile you may try to install PI on a 64-bit Linux distro if you can (you have to move your license file to your home directory on the 64-bit machine, or email us and we'll reset your trial license).

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: I forgot to say that we'll restart all trial licenses for 32-bit Linux users as soon as we release PI 1.6.9. In this way they'll have the whole trial period of 45 days.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your answers. I do indeed have a 32 bit machine so I'll just wait for the new version that works well, I'm not in a big hurry.

    All the best,
Alex
