Unable to get ImageSolver to work

Well, it gets stranger. Since cloudbait posted last nigth I have not been at my PC until just now.

I was curious about whether the change in the focal length had anything to do with the successful plate solve and I ran it at 360mm. It did not solve.
So I placed the correct focal length of 288 mm....and it dd not solve.

So...now I can't get it to solve. It is the exact same image I solved last night and I used the same numbers...and now it does not solve.

I have not rebooted my PC, I did not close PI...I merely went to it and tried to solve...and it now does not solve!?

Any thoughts are appreciated. Very weird.

Maybe it's time to start looking at things like overheating processors or bad memory.

As we have now noted several times, there is not much more useful comment we can make without a full precision (.xisf) image to work on.
Have you tried my suggestions in post #58. You are quite likely to continue to have problems with a limiting magnitude that includes the entire GAIA database. Use M65 as you image seed point and 2.6"/pix as your scale, and try the parameters I proposed in #58.

It would be quicker to try the #58 parameters first. I very much doubt that there is anything wrong with your installation. If you could just upload an xisf of the image (e.g. to Google Drive or DropBox) and post a link we would at least be discussing the same image.

That is the uncropped version. I usually don't use the autocrop version from WBPP.

Also in the setting from ATP when I took the images I mistakenly set the focal length for 360 mm when it should be 288 mm. I believe that the FITS header data indicates 360 mm. It is 288 mm albeit cloudbait indicated that issue may be moot.

I took my master xisf image taken the same night, same scope, etc., of M44 and with the same settings it solved without difficulty.

There is something it does not like about the M65 image.

I am going to try the suggestion put forth by fredvanner #58.

Also, I have plenty of RAM memory [24 GB available] and CPU is 1-2 % . My PC does not appear to be stressed.

Your uploaded image solves with no problems on my system with the following settings:
1679440841042.png

I do not get the massive limiting magnitude that your log displayed. That looked much more like an attempt to solve an uncalibrated image with lots of hot pixels. Could you try solving exactly the same image with exactly the same parameters as selected in my screenshot above.

Is there any change to the type of error report?
Could you do what you did before:
capture a screenshot of your full ImageSolver settings immediately before you run IS;
capture the process console log from the point of running IS to the errer report.

  • If you use an online star catalog through the VizieR service, consider using the Gaia DR3 catalog with local XPSD databases instead.
  • If the image has high noise levels, bad tracking, or is poorly focused, you may need to adjust some star detection parameters.

This usually happens because the initial parameters are too far from the actual metadata of the image.

I am going to download PI on another PC and see if it will run with the same data. I don't want to remove my current install as I have a lot of processing to do from the past few nights.

I am thinking I might have a bad install?

I don't have any other thoughts.

Of interest I am going to process the same M65 with the same scope. That could be interesting.
