PI has crashed with several tries on star aligning about 50 OSC subs that were calibrated and cos calibrated. I tried both before and after debayering. These were bad crashes....they locked up my computer and I had to do a hard re-boot to restart. The file sizes were quite large.

could be an out-of-memory problem, or could be badly calibrated subs. what happens if you try to align just 10? how much RAM is in your computer?

This is for sure a memory exhaustion problem. The StarAlignment tool implements automatic memory consumption control in the incoming version 1.8.8-8 of PixInsight, which will solve these problems on machines with insufficient resources by reducing the number of worker threads. Of course, this has an important cost in terms of execution speed. So if you need more RAM to work with a data set, the only really valid solution is, well, installing more RAM.
