cannot reproduce Explorer windows and Readout behavior in PI 01.8.9-2

Are these bugs or ignorance on my part? I’m not sure, and perhaps some of both, but they are problems for me in using Pixinsight.

The View Explorer and Object Explorer tabs show up on the left border of the screen along with other tabs. I would like to hide these two tabs. Is there a way to do that?

Also on my wish list is a way to suppress the automatic opening of the Explorer tabs when the cursor passes over them. Except for the Process Explorer which opens to display a process, it would be better to require a click to open them. I find myself repeatedly opening them by mistake when I attempt to select an ID tab or a preview tab on a view that abuts on the left margin. Arranging for a cascade of windows to align a half-inch to the right of the margin would solve the problem. Is that user adjustable?

Selecting the Readout icon in the toolbar does not result in a readout as the cursor passes over a view or when a click is executed at some position within the view (attachment, screenshot with mouse in one hand and iPhone in the other). Clicking again on the white box of the icon does not deactivate it, as shown by the little box on the cursor image. It does not matter whether the cursor is moving or stationary, clicked or not, inside our outside a preview window. I do see readout in the Realtime Preview.

I again see no readout box with the Readout icon selected in Histogram Transformation. And finally, I continue to see visual trash on the HT screen when either HT zoom icon is selected and the cursor passes across either the top or the bottom screen (attachment). This problem has been reported previously without catching anyone's attention.

Any light shed on any of these difficulties would be appreciated.

Explorer window tabs: if you open a window from the tab, and click the "close window" ("X") icon at the top right, the tab is closed (and removed from the tab bar).

It's a minor irritation, but I also frequently pop the process console out when I'm aiming for an image id tab. I do think a clean solution would be to simply start window cascades a little bit away from the left edge.

I recommend you watch the introductory series of video tutorials on our official YouTube channel. The following video about AutoHide windows shows you how to configure these windows with preferences settings:

As you can see, Preferences > Special GUI Effects > Hoverable AutoHide window selectors is the option you are looking for. These videos show many more configuration options for adapting our graphical interface to your requirements and preferences.

As for the other problems you are reporting here, we cannot reproduce them on any supported platform.

Juan, thank you. I will certainly watch the videos. In fact, I had just finished the first one when I found this message.

I was working today on a JWST image and I noticed that after a time, PI would not drag new previews. It failed both when using the new preview icon and when using OPT-n. I shut down PI, and the ability to use it returned, but only with OPT-n. I quit PI again and reopened, and there was no ability to drag new previews by any means. I have been trying to link this with some particular process or script, but with no success. I can say that this time the failure followed the use of GeneralizedHyperbolicStretch and HistogramTransformation. These two processes also show the defect with the Readout icons that you have been unable to reproduce. They also occasionally fail to display a view in the Real-Time Preview, but that is so far always repairable by resetting and refreshing the Real-Time Preview screen and paying attention to the view selector. I have seen the same behavior for years on two or three computers and with several updates. I am wondering if your Macs are equipped with different graphics cards than mine, which is a Radeon Pro Vega 56 8 GB.
