  1. When opening the history explorer from a views ID tab the window is completely compressed. See attached image
  2. The History Explorer no longer appears in the left side bar. See attached image

Did you close the History Explorer by accident? My sidebar is full of tabs.

Cheers
Tom

Well this is what I get when I do that. Also the history explorer icon does not show in the lefthand side bar. Is there a way to configure the side bar??

Before the reset this is what I was seeing

This is my side bar and it is definitely not full of tabs. I not only do not know how to remove one from the side but how to add one.

if resetting process geometries did not work then i think the only way to fix this would be to quit PI and edit the settings file. there is a section in the settings file that deals with the geometry of the HistoryExplorer.

This is the side bar on my Windows system. At the far left is the "View" toolbar; next to that are the tabs of the open explorers.

The "View" toolbar is selectable (like other toolbars) from the "View" menu:

This is also available by right-clicking any other toolbar.
The "explorer" tabs are displayed when you open an explorer process (by clicking on the appropriate icon, or using the appropriate short-cut).
The tab will remain visible if you minimise the explorer without closing it. The tab will disappear if you close the explorer window.

OK, can you tell me where the setting file is located? Also, I don't think that would explain why the icon for the history explorer is not in the left hand side

Thanks, for the explanation. I didn't realize there was another tool bar. The view tool bar must have been turned off when I updated to 1.9.

i think the icon is not there because the window has been pulled out of the toolbar and is floating free with a crazy geometry. that's what your screenshot seems to show.

you need to first unminify your settings file, which is in the global preferences. i dont have a running copy of PI next to me so i can't describe where it is, but if you search the forum for unminify or minfy you will see the instructions.

on windows the setting file is in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Pleiades\core-001-pxi.settings", there is a section called "HistoryExplorer" that gives the geometry, you'll probably find some comically small values there for the X and Y extent of the window.

Thanks, I found the setting file. I simply opened it and made no changes to it, but as the song goes "it's a strange world" and now everything is working again. Well there is a bit of strange behavior stil. When I exit pixinsight with the explorer window open and then restart pixinsight the explorer window opens again immediately.

I think that is expected behaviour if you close PI with an open, floating explorer window. It certainly happens on my system.
