The bright artifacts are being caused by too high of a global dark deringing threshold. Try lowering it.

I lowered it to 0.001 and the results were almost identical. How low should it be set?

It can be as low as 0.0001 if necessary. Enter the number manually when the slider cannot provide the necessary precision.

Hmmm... Even with the Global Dark set to 0.0001, I'm getting this grainy effect.

Maybe adjust the wavelet regularisation parameters

I tried increasing up to 7 wavelet layers and twiddling with the noise threshold and noise reduction values, with no luck.

I forgot to mention that I'm working with a 2x drizzled image - does that change how I should set the various parameters?

using the setting shown, I got some fairly decent results. Thoughts and suggestions welcome!
