I collected 12 hours of OSC data on Pinwheel Galaxy. Even 150 seconds exposure at F7 clipped stars kernels in some ugly way. There are just few pixels in the center of some stars where at least one of RGB components have value 1 (circled in red on the screenshot) and brightest pixels nearby are in the region of 0.1.
On the next screenshot left image is linear, middle one is mild stretch where galaxy is still barely visible, and right image is final processed version.
Is there anything can be done to at least partially reduce this effect? On linear or non-linear image?
Maybe just make all overexposed pixels white instead of red, green or yellow?
Or somehow blend it with grey pixels around?
I appreciate any advice or ideas.
