Abell 31 (= PK 219+31.1 or Sh2-290) is an ancient planetary nebula in the constellation Cancer. The apparent size according to Cartes du Ciel is 1008 x 936 arc-secs, thereby it would even outdo the Helix nebula (NGC 7293). The surface brightness is extremely low, it is specified as 27 mag/arc-sec².

This is my second image with the Duo Narrowband Filter. After my experience with Sh2-157, I did not capture frames without filter this time. I would have liked to capture longer total exposure time, particularly for Ha. Unfortunately I aimed for this object too late in the year, and now it is not reasonable to try it again.
