Hi Juan

Just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 - 64bit (painless for me!) and installed the latest PI 1.6.
I am now suffering from the same issue as Niall et all.
ldd (Ubuntu EGLIBC 2.11.1-0ubuntu7) 2.11.1
When I launch PI again after the crash, I get the message:-
"A previous instance of the PixInsight Core application crashed.
Reusing instance slot #1"
Downgraded :( to PI1.05.09 and all is well again!
Not having any issues with any other applications - so far

Thanks
Tony

Juan

Here is the screen shot from my Ubuntu system
The file option is not displayed

On Linux:- (with bug)
If I have 5 files to Align, CR2 in my case, One image is the reference and the alignment tool generates 4 _r.fit files. When opening up the ImageIntegration tool it only allows you to select .fit files. Because I cannot include the reference file as a target file I can only integrate 4 files
On Windows (no bug)
I can include all 5 files during alignment,  selecting one as a reference. I can Integrate 5 files as I now have 5 r_r.fit files.
Or am I doing something incorrectly?

Thanks
Tony

Hi

When selecting the Star Alignment reference image type - View or File, the file option in not shown although the drop down window expands to show View or "white space"
If a view is selected and the view is also one of the added files the Alignment routine fails eventually. So you cannot align all your image files unlike the windows version.

Cheyenne

Both my USB drives were mounted, but I unmounted and remounted them just in case!
But...I then dragged the relevant USB root folder icon to the PI open image files window and now PI can see the USB drives!

Thanks for the prompt steer.
There is lots to learn in the PI and Linux world!

All

After having out of memory problems using 32bit XP & HDRWavelet transforms, I have built a Ubuntu 64bit system with 6Gb memory.
PI 1.5 runs really well but I have one slight problem. Pixinsight - Open Image Files - cannot see my USB drives only My computer and directories/folders????
I can drag and drop from the USB drives to the PI workspace ok and PI remembers recent USB image locations
All other installed applications can see the USB drives as expected

Any clues?

Thanks

General / ImageIntegration - file types limited to FITS
« on: 2009 June 14 16:04:19 »
Hi All

A quick question
I am using the ImageIntegration process, but the file types are limited to FITS, have I missed a setting somewhere as I want to integrate some TIFF files?
The star Alignment tool allows "All known formats" and can output different formats most of which the ImageIntegration process cannot handle!

Thanks
Tony

General / HDRWaveletTransform - Out of memory message
« on: 2009 June 14 15:52:41 »
Hi Juan & Colleagues

PI 1.5.2 on Windows XP with 3Gb memory

I have been trying to process a registered and integrated image (From a Canon 5D2) w4519 h2916 150.803MB

If I apply a HDRWaveletTransform I have no problems, but if I tick the Deringing check box I get the following message:-

Applying large-scale HDRWT deringing routine:   0%
*** Error: Out of memory
Reading swap files...
603.19 MB/s
<* failed *>

If I then untick the Deringing check box all is ok again!

Sorry no luck yet, I extracted the tar.gz as you directed.
The files extract with the same structure when using the Synaptic Package Manager as far as I can see

I cannot find a /usr/lib/pixinsight/bin folder.

Hmm, that's interesting. Could you post the result of running the following two commands?:

Code: [Select]
dpkg -l "pixinsight*"
dpkg -L pixinsight-core

(They can be run as normal user with no ill effects)

Hi David

Sorry but I removed and re-installed PixInsight before I read your reply...

But I now do not get any error messages but Pixinsight does not launch

I ran the code
First row
Name=pixinsight-cor
Version=01.03.00.434-2
Description Modular, open-architecture, etc
Second row
Name=pixinsight-mod
Version=01.03.00.434-2
Description Modular, open-architecture, etc

The second returns
Name=pixinsight-cor
Version=01.03.00.434-2
Description Modular, open-architecture, etc

Thanks
Tony

Can anybody give me a steer on how to install PixInsight on a Ubuntu system as the built in install manager will not handle tar.gz files?

In general terms, you have to add a couple of lines to the APT configuration and the PixInsight packages should appear in synaptic, aptitude or whatever package manager you use.

To configure apt, add these lines to /etc/apt/sources.list:

Code: [Select]
deb http://repos.pixinsight.com/debian unstable non-free
deb-src http://repos.pixinsight.com/debian unstable non-free

Now follow the standard procedure of your package manager to search / install PixInsight. Sorry, I can't help you with that since I use plain apt-get. The last version I uploaded to the repository is 1.3.0 if memory serves me well, but I'm currently working on the packaging of 1.4.1.

Please don't hesitate to ask whenever you have any kind of problem or question :). And bug me if you need 1.4.1 for any reason!

David
Downloaded ok via Synaptic manager but when I try to launch it from the icon I get the following message:-
Fatal Error - Unable to launch the pixinsight core application /usr/lib/pixinsight/bin/pixinsight core.
I cannot find a /usr/lib/pixinsight/bin folder.

Thanks
