Let's suppose you have a Variable Star time sequence with a lot of images and you want automatically to do:

- image calibration
- plate solving of the first image of the sequence
- aperture photometry with data table export

1) How would you do that from command line?
2) How do I pass the parameters from the command line to the scripts?

Dear All,

is there a chance to run PI in batch and executing a script with results normally in console, saved in a file?
For instance I would like, at the end of an image session, to run PI with FWHM Eccentricity and take some decisions based on the output of that script.

General / PI and Python Language
« on: 2016 November 06 05:34:14 »
Hello All,

I've seen that a while ago a module was developed in order to do PI scripting by this programming language. At what stage is it? Is it still alpha or now is stable and into the mainstream release?

Bug Reports / Error in Image Integration with SSWEIGHT keyword
« on: 2016 September 30 05:37:17 »
Dear All,

I get sistematically this error:

*** Error: D:/tmp/VdB24_L__0000_c_cc_a_r.xisf: Nonexistent or invalid weight keyword 'SSWEIGHT'.

The keyword is existent and I assume its value is valid as it comes from the subframe selector.
See attached the screenshots related to the error and the fits keyword as it appears on the header

Can you please help me?

Thanks a lot

Image Processing Challenges / Serious Issue with Flatfield
« on: 2016 March 22 15:37:30 »
Dear All,
my imaging train is: focuser+adapter+SX-AO-LF+CCD
If I take off the SX-AO unit from the imaging train all is fine, but when I have it, I get a weird uneven illumination field (the external brighter ring). I tried with either flats from a flat panel and sky flats but they do not have success in flatting the field. The issue is visible only on L and R filters, and not on G and B. I am using Astrodon Gen2 E filters.
I'm so much confused now that I would give everything up and just use the DBE from PixInsight, but I'd rather prefer to fight against the issue from the source, but I don't know what to try next.
I attach a raw frame stretched to see the uneven field illumination.

Image Processing Challenges / Issue with flat
« on: 2015 January 27 13:52:57 »
Dear All,

I'm having trouble dealing with this kind of problem: as you may see from the flat frame attached, there is a sort of big dark ring; it is visible in both flats and lights so I thought this could be solved, but for some strange reason the flat does not correct it and the dark ring remains even after calibrating the lights. I don't know what to try to solve this, does anyone have a solution for this?
Thanks a lot for your help

Dear All,

I'll attach here my progresses in the MW mosaic project, I hope you like it.
So far I joined 4 frames....

General / Deconvolution...a black beast
« on: 2014 May 09 12:38:32 »
Hello All,

after being a while off PI and image processing, I'd like to go back and process some of the images I have got into my hard disk. I am becoming mad with deconvolution. I followed almost all the suggested tutorials, but still I can't get hold of it.
For instance this an image of mine of a galaxy before deconv.
before.jpg and after.jpg show you my poor results on the matter....

Dear All,

I recently processed these two images took with my new scope. I'd like to have your feedback on how to improve them.

Thank you and clear skies

Gallery / IC5070 - Pelican Nebula
« on: 2013 April 30 06:08:05 »
Here in Northern Italy is raining cats and dogs, so it is the ideal moment to process some image and cheer up a bit. This time I processed an image of the emission nebula IC5070 also called the Pelican Nebula. it is an HRGB composition shot with the Tak FSQ85ED and the QSI583wsg.

The above link to access the highres version and the technical details related to the frame acquisition.

C&C always welcome

I already introduced here in the past a 2 frames mosaic of the Supernova Remnant G65.2+5.7 which was my first mosaic and my first attempt at RGBHO composition.
Today instead I share with you my new image of the Veil Nebula Complex. Also for this one I used an RGBHO composition of two frames. I definetely prefer my latest rendering especially as far as the OIII color is concerned.
Actually I belive I'll reprocess G65.2+5.7 with the new color composition too

Technical details and high-res:

C&C always welcome

General / Gradient Merge Mosaic Issues. A strange artifact...
« on: 2013 February 20 09:40:45 »

I am getting this strange artifact on gradient merge mosaic. Do you know why and how to overcome it?
See screenshot.

Thanks a lot!

Dear All,

just a couple of images I recently processed, taken with my VC200L and a QSI583.

I look forward your suggestions for improvements

Best regards

Just completed processing my first wide field image since ages, I'll probably try to do some more, but I am not sure if to buy a better lens for my modified Canon 450D or using my CCD with a medium format lens.
This image was also a first trial on the field for my new software DitherMaster Blind for EOS Utility, which was a success. I was amazed by the amount of tiny objects I found in this image.

I hope you like it C&C always welcome!

Hello Astro-friends!  :)

Here I am again to show you a new image: the supernova remnant IC443 wide field, as part of my ongoing project of shooting as many supernova remnants as possible. It's a HaRGB.
Interesting to notice the bestiary of objects that can be identified, starting from different shades of red that populate Sh2-249 to the beautiful VdB75 (of which I have included a 100% crop on the page).
I hope you like it:

C&C welcome as usual

Clear skies
