Two scripts with my method of continuum subtraction have been updated.

1. CS.js

Subtracts the continuum from a narrowband image (1 channel) and returns a new view. One can then add the reduced view with any amplification to the appropriate broadband channel using PixelMath: $T + reducedView * amplification

2. EmissionLineIntegration.js

Adds up to 3 narrowband channels to a RGB image. If more than 3 narrowband images belong to the image, use CS.js instead.

Yes, scripting gives us C++ errors but not the benefits of this language. Shoul I despair, I let you know  ;)

Well, I've seen C0000005 recently, when I experimented with new scripts. WriteJPEG should not produce such an error after years of use. For stretched images use SaveAs instead.


my proposal in a very short form:

0. Generate a good starmask, take MaskGen.js

1. Apply little convolution to the mask

2. Subtract continuum (R) from Halpha with CS.js

(use the mask)

this will create the emission line image Ie

3. Add the emission line image to the R-channel with PixelMath

$T + Ie * f * ~mask

Start with f = 1, modify, if necessary

4. Continue with AdvSharpening.js, Morph... Etc.

Hi Steve,

I've found this topic a few minutes ago.

As Andres wrote, the astrometry was "re-invented" with the latest updates of PixInsight. The new methods exposed with ImageWindow object are today, what I was looking for since long. Thanks to Andres and the team.

In some cases, distortion can be a problem. When you see star centers not matching the mask, tweek your ImageSolver with higher magnitudes (i.e 14..17). This takes more time but should give you better results.

If you have doubts on non-masked stars, please verify the positions with Simbad and send me the coordinates.

 Sorry, this kind of errors is beyond my scope. I do not want to rule out that the error lies in the method getPixels, which could be replaced by getSamples. Before doing so, I will try to find out the difference.

Visitors of Herbert's wonderful know my new mask generator MaskGen. This tool needs an astrometric distortion corrected solution. One can create masks with variable diameter for stars up to mag 21.
