Release Information / Re: New in PixInsight 1.8.5: FrameAdaptation
« on: 2017 September 11 12:31:34 »
All sorted. Uninstalled and reinstalled PI and all now working. However, it may have been me all the time. I realised when I attempted to load the files again, that until I Added the registered files to ImageIntegration the Add localnormalisation box was blanked out!

Thanks again Rob for getting me back on the rails. My initial reaction having run it with a few files is that the integrated image is a significant improvement. Thanks everyone at PI for such great software even if it really tests an old boy like me.

Thanks Rob,

not sure why but my ImageIntegration input panel doesn't have these extra boxes in, it looks the same as the old version of PI. I downloaded the new version a few days ago and just checked and it says in the program files that it is the new version.

Presumably I should re-install the new version??

you need to add the LN files to the ImageIntegration tool... there is a button to the left of the file list.

Hi Rob, can you expand on where this button is. I am having trouble trying to find the xnml files after producing them with LocalNormalisation. I can see them in Windows File Explorer but ImageIntegration doesn't seem recognise xnml files and I can't therefore Add Files to ImageIntegration.

Probably something simple I am missing??

Hi folks

Have downloaded the new updated version and just run LocalNormalisation and asked it to put files in a named folder.  I can see the xnml files in the folder where they have been put, but when I open ImageIntegration and click Add files they are no where to be seen. Opening the file types list in ImageIntegration shows xisf file typebut no xnml.

Anyone offer advice? Thanks

General / add more calibrated images?
« on: 2017 September 07 12:17:56 »
A simple question that I am unsure of the answer.

I took 20 of images of M31 a few weeks ago, calibrated them and integrated them into an image (say image A). If I take more images of M31, same setting, and calibrate them, can I register them and integrate these addition images directly with Image A or do I integrate them with the original 20 calibrated images?

Thanks for your help.

General / DynamicPSF problem
« on: 2016 September 06 12:46:52 »
Probably something simple that I am doing wrong.

Selected a good number of stars from my Linear image, sorted them by MAD, A and r, deleted some as per the tutorials. Those that are left I Export, but the PSF image looks to be only 1 pixel in size and does not resemble a star.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Many thanks for the clarification. SFS proving very helpful, only just discovered it and will be re-visiting sets of data that I sorted by eye.

Best regards

General / Use of SubframeSelector on more than one batch of images
« on: 2016 September 04 10:20:22 »
My query is directed to Mike Schuster who wrote the PI Script:

If you take a batch of images say today, calibrate them and then run them through SubFrameSelector and save them with a weighting for noise, focus etc. If I subsequently did another batch of images at a later date, calibrated them and checked them in SFS would I need to run the earlier batch through at the same time to ensure that the weighting would be set against all the images in the 2 batches? Or do the weighting applied to the individual batches hold up when the two batches are integrated to produce and image?

Thanks for your help

Hi Edoardo

Very many thanks, easy when you know how. Followed your clear instructions and it all worked. The process is superb, noise has vanished.

Very much appreciated.

Best wishes

Hi there

Can someone point me in the direction of information on how to use the Linear Mask in the MultiscaleLinearTramsform tool. I have tried and failed to get it to work. Probably very simple but I can't get it to work.

Thanks Rob, much appreciated

Hi Rob

How can I thank enough. Followed your instructions and could see there were lots of hot pixels round the edges of the image where different sessions had let to images not always perfectly aligned. Adjusted the noise setting and the hot pixel removal and Staralignment found enough stars to register the 2 images. Copied each image and put them into ImageIntergration and I now have a merged blue channel image of the images from the 2 scopes.

Magic - How do you guys know all this stuff?

Thanks again

All worked fine for the 2 Luminance images. I registered the 2 images and then duplicated them and used ImageIntegration to combine what was now 4 images. Hey presto a combined image came out of the process.

However, not so with the Red and Blue images (I haven't tried the Green images yet). I couldn't register them with each other. I got and error message at the end of the registration process saying: Unable to find an initial set of putative star pair matches.

It is true to say that there are not a great number of stars on the 8SE scope image of M51, so presumably this might be the cause of the problem? However, it did register the 2 luminance images.

Any views?

Thanks Rob

I will give that a try and come back.
