General / Re: Batch Process MergeCFA ?

Bernd,

Thank you again for even more information. Yes the function is what I want to do. I need a bit of time to try this out, and I will get back here with my success or more questions in due course.

Regards,

Mike

Bernd,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post that solution. I presume it's for the exact example I stated above?

The problem is I have no idea what you have written, I feel so ignorant and I have no idea what those symbols mean, so I will not be able to change it to suit other tasks.

Where can I find out more info on PixelMath in how you can manipulate either the CFA array (RGGB) or even a debayered image with RGB pixels?

Regards,

Mike

General / Batch Process MergeCFA ?
« on: 2019 July 02 06:04:16 »
I am processing individual CFA layers after using SplitCFA. But how can I combine them again as merge CFA does not allow batch mode and it takes an awful long time to merge each image sub separately? Note: I am not just putting the same CFA layers back in, but changing them about a bit.

For example using a DSLR with OIII filter, the red channel is just noise, while both green and the blue have good signal. I want to be able to copy the blue channel to the red, then proceed with Debayer, StarAlignment and Integration. If this is done before debayering the noise in the red channel in not mixed in with the data.

Thanks,

Mike

General / Re: Misaligned stars??

There is another cause for this and it's what happens to my images. If I take R G & B subs (mono camera) and one or more were taken on one side of the meridan and one or more on the other side, they don't line up.

A fudge that has limited success is the Channel Match tool as already mentioned.

But the best method is to ensure I take all R G & B images on the same side of the meridan. It does not seem to matter with narrowband images, perhaps because they are "narrowband" and the optics can cope better.

I have never got round to sorting out the real cause which is probably some optical misalignment due to optics or focuser movement in the scope. I know it's not ideal, but I have managed for a few years now and I really don't want to send the scope back to Japan for checking and re-collimating!

Try using drizzle integration after the normal integration. If you don't want it larger just set it to 1x. Drizzle integrations tend to blend in the edges a lot better.

Beo,

I also got 1 pixel lines left, but then I noted that if I crop the image to remove the jagged edges you get after integration, the lines no longer appear. That is crop the image then do the banding removal.

General / Re: Problem with re-starting PI
« on: 2018 October 08 02:19:17 »
Steve,

I have had this issue a few times and I have no idea as to the cause, but what is happening is that when you close PI, some times it keeps running in the background. And because it does not actually close, the updates are not applied.

What you need to do is open up task manager and find the PI instance. Kill it, then re-start PI, No need to re-boot. Re-do the updates and close PI as normal. It should then install the updates and work fine until the next time it decides not to close properly!!

Thanks Rick,

After reading your reply I just realized I could have tested that by doing both and subtracting one result from the other Doh!

So it does make a difference, I will in that case re-do integration as I am always after the best result.

General / Question about Drizzle Integration.
« on: 2018 October 03 04:51:10 »
Lets say I have integrated 200 subs, the used drizzle integration, but I decide later to reject a few of the subs. Do I have to re-run integration, or can I just re-do the drizzle and omit the rejected subs.

I ask because I don’t know how reliant drizzle is on a previous run of integration. It’s just a time saver, especially if there are a few hundred subs to re-do.

Thanks,
Mike

Less ideally, perhaps I could debayer my master flat, manually balance the histograms, and then somehow undebayer the balanced image to take it back to grey.  Is this possible?

Yes and the tools for this are SplitCFA and MergeCFA. After the Split, use LinearFIT to balance all 4 (yes 4) files, then merge them again.

This is something I have just started to do, like yesterday.

Note, you may get an error message if you are starting with an odd number of rows in your image, I get this with my DSLR so I have to use Crop to remove the bottom row before using SplitCFA.

...I adjust Tolerance such that Sample Weight is above the Minimum Sample Weight limit.

Wim, can you please explain what you mean by Sample Weight? I can see the Minimum Sample Weight limit, but where does the Sample Weight come from?

Thanks,

Mike

You could also Rescale your master flat to match the bin 1x1 images if you can't retake flats that work. Not ideal but it may save a nights batch of images.

Have you tried to do a "Save As" for the project instead of "Save" and give it a new name?

They are all cosmetically corrected, locally normalized, registered, and integrated with PI 1.8.5.

Did you do those processes in that order? if you did, try again and put LN after registration and before integration.
