HI, I have found mosaics with tough gradients work well by registering the mosaic images separately then combining with GradientMergeMosaic tool. Might be worth a shot.

To be honest looking at the image it looks more like M33 covers the top left and bottom right corners and so therefore they wont be as dark, and the other two corners are just open space, so are darker. I don't think it is down to vignetting. Just a thought.

Finally managed a decent set of data. I plugged away at this over four nights, and I am quite happy with the result. Some people prefer the background to be black but I like some color to it. I do plan to add some HA at some point if it is ever clear enough. All processed in PI, of course.

Thanks Guys! It was only a short data set, with LUM 10x300sec, and the RGB 5x300sec each. So just over 2 hours. If the weather ever clears I might give my next target a better shot.

Cheers

Hi, finally got a clear night. Used my new Nightcrawler for the first time. Here is my shot at M8 with M20 and M21, with my FSQ106DX4 @f3.6

Cheers

Hi, after a really cloudy winter (cos I bought a TAK FSQ106) I did some imaging with my EDGE1100HD. Processed in Pixinsight, of course, and only 15x 5min exposures over 2 nights. I plan to add the RGB and a few more Lum subs time permitting.

Very nice pic Ron, I'm jealous!! Got my TAK setup now and hope to get some nice data like that soon

Hi Ron, great start to your M31 there. I also recently got an FSQ106, (Brian may have mentioned me!) Like you I am waiting for clear skies. Just got the last few adapters so I can use my reducer, nice to see your is working well. Currently sat at the kitchen island waiting for a possible clear couple of hours. Well done again on another great image!

« on: 2016 March 25 03:59:26 »
Hi, I managed to shoot a good set of data under a 75%moon while testing out a new guide camera. So here is my version of M101.
Scope 8 inch Newt
Mount Skywatcher EQ8
Camera Atik383L+ mono
Guide scope 50mm finder with SBIG STi mono
Lum 19x 420sec
RGB 19x 300sec each
Total 6hours 58minutes

Thanks for looking

General / Re: Adding different Objects to same Image
« on: 2015 December 14 04:59:26 »
Thanks for the info guys. I have tried the insert method and making a new image and inserting there. Shame we don't have a simple cut and past or can use preview windows to add to other images. I know PI is mainly for astro images, so I guess this type of functionality is a very low priority.

Thanks anyway and Clear Skies

General / Adding different Objects to same Image
« on: 2015 December 13 04:14:44 »
Hi, I know this question is a little more paint than pixelmath, but can I add two different object images to make a new image. For example say M51 and M42?
I wanted to print some pictures with two or more objects on them.

Thanks

Hi, well I finally got a clear evening, weather, work and other things and managed to get a lot done. New polar alignment, new TPoint model (now at 40 arcsec!), and a good set of data on M91.
Scope 8 inch Net
Mount Skywatcher EQ8, in my astroshed
Camera ATIK383L+ mono, with EFW2 filter wheel and Baader LRGB filterset.
Guiding with 50mm finderscope and QHY5-IILM
Luminance 15x 300sec.
RGB 9x 180sec each channel binned 2x2.
Of course all processed in PixInsight.

I'm still having issues with my flats giving me gradients. CCDAP suggested an ADU 0f 17,000. But I think that is way to low. I have tried 33,500 ADU before with the same issues. I know the Moon was up and that was probably some of my issues with this one, but that can't be helped. Any ideas would be appreciated.

General / Lunar Mosaic - wont work anymore
« on: 2014 April 07 16:38:47 »
HI, last year I managed to get PI to integrate a lunar mosaic, but I tried a new one this week and now it doesn't always work. Not sure why. It will combine some panels, but not all, even though I have made sure they are all processed the same (in registax). If I remember correctly there was a change in the star alignment module.

General / Image Calibration, Dark frame optimization
« on: 2014 January 04 14:33:16 »
Hi, I have been having issues with my image calibration, in that there are still hot pixels showing up in the calibrated images. I noticed that the dark frame option have an optimization check box. If I uncheck this box then the calibrated images don't have hot pixels, but if it is checked then I get hot pixels. The dark frame I am using is temperature matched via the CCD cooling. I would have thought that the optimization routine would remove the hot pixels?
The images are in HA and all processing done in PI. I didn't use dithering during capture, which would probably remove most of these, but that's another issue.
