Hi,

There is a script call "StarHaloReducer" that might work.  If it is only a couple of big stars, then create a range or star mask that covers the halo(s) and apply and invert the mask.  Now use CurvesTransformation and if the halo is blue, then reduce the blue line until the halo disappears.

General / Re: Swap drive architecture in new PC
« on: 2020 January 08 22:04:44 »
Hi,

In an ideal world I believe you would get better performance with the "swap drive" being on a separate physical local disk. This is for Windows, Linux and PixInsight and I assume MacOS.

If the PC has sufficient RAM then the "swap drive" for Windows and Linux is not used very much. So my suggestion is to have the the Windows/Linux/MacOS "swap drive" on one drive and the PixInsight "swap drive"  on a different fast drive (SSD).  That being said, disk performances have improved by leaps and bounds so I am not sure what the performance would be like.  I have also set up the PixInsight "swap drive" on a USB3 external SSD and had some performance improvement.

Perhaps the best test is to set the "swap drive" to a local disk and run the PixInsight Benchmark test and then change the "swap drive" and run the benchmark tests again.

General / Re: Unable to install 1.8.6 after 1.8.4 on Windows 7
« on: 2020 January 07 02:54:47 »
Hi,

This is from the PixInsight website :

Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 are no longer supported. Many users report that they are using current 1.8.6 and 1.8.7 versions of PixInsight on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 without problems, but we no longer test the application on these Windows versions. This means that we cannot guarantee that current PixInsight versions will still work correctly on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1.

Hi,

Windows 7 and 8 is not supported and only Windows 10 is supported. You will either have to upgrade your remote pc to Windows 10 or go back to the earlier version of PixInsight that worked.

Flats are used to fix optical errors, so using a different camera changes the optical system. Flats are normally only 1 to 2 seconds exposure, so will only take a couple of minute to complete.  ... no short cuts or you will end up with a mess.....

Hi,

I don't think the IP address has anything to do with the registration.  I run PixInsight on my laptop at home and also on a server at work, so the ip addresses are not even close.

Hi,

Put your suggestion on the "Wish-List" on this forum.

Hi,

You could try and make “synthetic flats” so at least you can use the Light frames.

Hi,

I have had similar problems with my 8"EdgeHD.  Anyway, try this for a synthetic flat to remove the halo.

Open unstretched Light image and apply STF
Duplicate image and name star_support
Duplicate image and name flat

MMT - 5 layers
X on Residual
Apply to star_support image

PixelMath $T - star_support
Apply to flat

MMT  - 6 Layers
X all layers except Residual
Apply to flat

CloneStamp bright areas
PixelMath $T * mean(flat) / flat
Apply to Light

I am sure there are many other better way to fix this, but this seems to work quite well.

Hi,

The easiest way to solve this, is to duplicate the two images and then run the process with the 4 frames.  (There is some math issue with only two images ... I should have paid more attention at school).

Hi,

I have been processing some old data which turned out to be quite horrible, mostly because the flat were bad.  Anyway, I used David Ault's tutorial to create synthetic flats and I was able to create a great image.  My question, should synthetic flats only be created/used as a last resort?

erm, 90% of my astronomical purchases have been far more than the cost of PixInsight and my images have improved a 1000% so pay the money, get the best!

Hey pfile, thanks for the heads-up about cropping and the bayer matrix.  I was wondering what went wrong with the integration
