General / Re: Would you upgrade my PC?
« on: 2019 August 18 09:11:56 »
I just built a new Astro-PC for PI in particular. I used an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU, 64GB of RAM and an ASUS X470-pro MB. The system flies and I get great PI benchmark numbers. Now, I just need good weather (Florida in summertime doesn't allow that!) to gather more data.

I have Warren Keller's books (both editions) and highly recommend them.

It's not just SGP, but TheSkyX captures have the same issue. I talked with one of the developers of TSX, and since they helped write the standard, feel like this is a PI issue.

I'm not trying to start a flame war, just pointing something out.

This is also a problem when using TheSkyX for image capture.

That works, thanks. Something that I have tried to figure out!

General / Re: How Does Everyone Store their Data Long-Term?
« on: 2019 February 24 15:18:10 »
I store all my raw FITS files straight out of the camera and have (2) 2TB external USB 3 drives I store copies on. I don't store process icons, but every separate image is a PixInsight project from the get-go. I'm hopeful that my processing skills will improve and I can have a go at the raw data again.

Hank,

What I do for capture is what Chris described. Setup a place for TS to put the files as it captures them.

Then, I set up a folder in a separate directory (e.g., 2019-01-18-VeilNebula) where I put all the files that I process in PI.

I use TheSkyX, on Windows. Works great. I know it also runs on the Mac platform, but it also came with my Paramount MyT.... Enjoy your new camera!

Bug Reports / Invert does not work on Image Container
« on: 2017 March 22 06:03:52 »
I took 30 images of comet 41P, and want to invert them. I added all images to an Image Container, set the directories, and tried to open the process Invert. I get a pop-up that says: Cannot execute instance in the global context. Reason: Invert instances cannot be executed in the global context.

Did I do something incorrect in the setup, or is this expected behavior?

Thanks,
TomC
