General / BPP "No flat frames detected to calibrate light frames."
« on: 2019 November 29 18:59:06 »
I have looked around and I am not the first to have this issue and I have tried the fix suggested: using the add custom and changing the filter name. but still no dice. I leave the filter name as ? as suggested in the field.  Otherwise how does this get done?

thank you!

General / PCC not able to plate solve.
« on: 2019 November 29 17:41:21 »
Hello, I am getting the same error I would get in star alignment / unable to get putative stars. Trouble is there are not that many adjustments I can make in PCC. I changed the slide in log sensitive to the max on left and increased noise detection but still cannot get a plate solve. any suggestions?

I was able to plate solve my image of IC 405,  but not of M33.

Thank you!

General / Starnet install
« on: 2019 November 09 22:53:56 »
I am getting an error trying to test starnet. At the end of the process is tells me "permission denied." Does this mean Starnet will not work on my system? It is a relatively newer W10.

thank you

General / Unable to detect a putative stars?
« on: 2019 November 04 11:07:10 »
Hello, my star alignment has been failing. I am using the following settings, but still most subs are failing "failure to detect putative.."

It should not be like this. The sky conditions were good.

anyone have any ideas? Thank you

 - Detection scales 3
 - Noise scales 0
 - Hot pixel removal 1
 - Noise reduction 5
 - Log sensitivity -1.00
 - Peak response 1.0
 - Maximum distortion 0.500
 - Upper limit 1.00

 - RANSAC tolerance 7.00

General / Strange results when using the full PI Pre-proc algorythm
« on: 2019 September 08 18:35:38 »
I am having no problem now thanks to some insightful help on this forum and reading Keller, with BPP, but even with following Keller I am having problems with my integration results when I proceed with the full PI pre proc. I think too much red. I am just not sure.

But here is what the integration of my Orion Nebula looks like using the full PI pre-proc algorithm re Keller. The only thing I did differently was not check off optimize dark ( i did check off calibrate) when calibrating the flat frames.

The attached is what I am getting.

and this is my astrobin of my BPP w PI post -proc (same data set).

Someone here must have had these results before.  I extracted the channels here only to see what they look like and the red looks off.

Here is a link to the integration file:

Thank you so much

General / Getting BPP just right.
« on: 2019 August 30 12:11:16 »
Can someone help me out with BPP settings? Firstly, why do I always have to add star alignment as a separate process to the debayred images? I thought BPP was supposed to align the images but it never does for me.  Secondly, when I add cosmetic correction to the script
it does not turn out right. I think it might have to do with the CFA setting -- is it supposed to be selected on the script or on the proc?

Is there a way to get cosmetic correction integrated in the BPP properly?,  because I have not had luck.

Thank you!

General / Strange error code in image integration.
« on: 2019 August 04 12:06:48 »
trying to run image integration, after having completed CC, DEB, SA, and the following error comes up:

*** Error: F:/PI/7000/sa/7000-3_002-3_c_cc_d_r.xisf: Zero or insignificant signal detected (empty image?)
<* failed *>

There certainly is an image(s) to integrate however. What in the world is going on here?  anyone have a clue? thank you so much!

The image I have on the screen (not detected) I applied STF for the purpose of being able to see the signal.

Here is a link to the star aligned file -- one of 15 or 16 files trying to integrate but the one the error message indicates to.

General / Improving my glob cluster results
« on: 2019 July 28 12:26:51 »
I hope this is not asking a lot from members here, but I would really like to know if there is potential for post processing improvement on this image?
What appears to me is that I would like to extract luminance from the core, but I was not successful in this case. Re process LRGB comb, I have the  sat slider at .2 and lightness slider at .5, nonetheless I had tried several combinations and this was what I came up with.

fit file:

Thank you so much!

I really do not know what setting could have derailed me, however using the full PI soup to nut pre-processing algorithm is supposed to be an asset, rather than the opposite.    In this integration of The Swan I have 13 x 180 subs, 16 flats, 15 darks and about 100 bias frames. I used an Astronomics CLS filter since I integrated from my front door and there is light pollution. I follow the PI flow  per Keller, starting with calibration of flat frames, etc, integration of flats, CC, DEB, and SA.  below is what I am left with after ABE or DBE. Now, the link I provide on astrobin is a BPP version -- much nicer.  I have no idea where to explore what went wrong w the PI pre-process procedures. I also tried DSS and that came out fine too.

Here is my Fit file.

General / Am I missing anything major from my workflow?
« on: 2019 July 22 14:15:45 »
I am hoping I might get a critique on whether I have included the major components I need in a PI work-flow. Is there something I really need to add as a process?

    • ABE (DBE if needed)
BN (does this step add anything? I have not found it really does but I sometimes still do it)
CC (this is the most dramatic step for me outside of ABE or LRGB)
      Hist transformation
HDMR MST (I usually set at 8 and to lightness. Is deringing necessary?
LRGB Combo ( If I only had one tool this probably would be it.) I often slide the
Range mask -- I am not sure I have ever noticed any difference w a range mask but I still use it.
Curve transformation. (If my flats are properly calibrated I usually find no benefit to a curve in either direction)

Deconvolution and local histogram processes I sometimes include but I have never found the results of these two of any added value.

Anything else I should really take a look at? for example, is there any process that might help this image?

This image is my recent crowning achievement as I have been in imaging for about 8 months and this is my best in that time.  I would like more tools in the box if possible.

I cleared out the cache and purged persistent but still no integration is occuiring.  Not sure what my next step should be. Never had this issue before. please advise.

General / Color Calibration is blowing out my integration
« on: 2019 June 24 13:25:46 »
Not sure how to get past this. color calibration is ruining my integration, making it way overly dark, like it was curved into nothingness.

Tried several diff sample previews and even differnt DBE's. Nothing helps.

General / Why might histogram transformation not be working?
« on: 2019 June 06 12:22:52 »
How could it be that the process of Histogram transformation will not respond as it should?  In every other case I  drop the screen transfer function instance icon down to the histogram transformation panel at the bottom left and the histogram changes and I can get the correct histrogram status format preserved, but sometimes as in this case no matter what I do histrogram tr will not respond at all and I cannot move forward.

General / Star Alignment Process not detecting enough stars?
« on: 2019 April 29 19:54:55 »
I wonder what I am a doing wrong. I brought the slider way to the left, but still no star alignment  :surprised:

« on: 2019 April 19 11:34:49 »
I presume the star alignment process is part of the image integration tool suite. but I am not sure what the relevance is? Is star alignment tool for stacking and aligning? If so, isn't that what image integration already does?
