A couple of great suggestions there. Thanks.

Wish List / Star alignment process
« on: 2018 January 08 14:22:10 »
A really simple one.

It would be very useful to have the file name for the reference image stored in the file header following the StarAlignment process. If I'm adding images to a previously aligned set I've usually forgotten to make a note of the reference used previously which means re-aligning the entire set instead of just the new images.

Is this tutorial still available anywhere? The dropbox link is failing.

Thanks for this incredibly useful tool Mike.

I ran it against my FSQ-85 and the results are revealing. Up until now, Takahashi have been claiming my problem is down to tilt in the optical train. This gives me some useful results to feed back.

Hi Tim

Are you sure about your choice of reference image? It appears to have less than half the number of stars as the others and FWHM looks suspect as well.

You need to run the process and then it'll display the local support image.

Bug Reports / Re: GradientHDRCompression

Hi Alejandro

Thanks for the information. I've got so used to relying on previews I forgot that sometimes they aren't fully reliable,

Bug Reports / GradientHDRCompression

I'm having some problems with GradientHDRCompression with the 1185 release. Preview looks as if it works correctly but when I apply the process to the image the result is very much darker and looks nothing like the preview.

I can post an example if required.

I've written a short description of how to download a catalog from VizieR and format the data for use with the AnnotateImage script:

Image Processing Challenges / Re: M94 - Dynamic range problem

Mike

I need to rework this again to reduce the damage to the stars but I'm quite pleased with how the galaxy is looking now. Of all the galaxies I've tried this one has been the trickiest and I've learnt a lot.

That's interesting, the blue has come out in the inner ring. This is one very strange galaxy.

I haven't tried anywhere near 10 iterations of HDRMT previously. Looks like I need to be a lot more aggressive with colour saturation.

Thanks Mike, that's reassuring. I'll run through the processing again and see what comes out.

I'll save and upload the process icon and masks next time.
