Hi guys, Problem was that although Amazon was unauthorized to self-print this 'premier title,' somehow they did so before the index was corrected. If you have a bad index, contact Hannah Kaufman at hannah.kaufman@springernature.com and she will replace it free of charge!

Tutorials and Processing Examples / Inside PixInsight Book Update
« on: 2019 January 26 08:40:42 »
This is SO cool for several reasons!

#1, My book Inside PixInsight, is Springer Nature's #1!

#2, This poster was produced for England's AstroFest.

#3 It was produced because Springer managed to pull-off printing sufficient copies of the second edition for sale there.

#4 Can general US printing be far behind? IOW, hopefully, with a corrected index and other bugaboos now ironed out, I will hopefully have my bulk book order very soon.

#5 Apologies for the Springer delays!

General / Re: Inside Pixinsight - Second Edition Availibility

Larry and Jim, Thanks for contacting me privately this week. Jim, as you know- Hannah @ Springer is on this. As of yesterday, Springer's head of production did not know where these unauthorized copies are being produced. It's very disturbing. Apparently, officially, the book hasn't been given the go for production. Hopefully it will be sorted soon, and the index corrected. One ray of sunshine in this mess is Larry's report that the new version looks better than the first edition and it was worth them changing printers. I apologize for the inconvenience, though it's way beyond my control, and it's disappointing and embarrassing that such an anticipated title has had such a rocky start.

Hi Cam and Juan, It would be good to get all the random posts on SFS under one thread. My issues are similar to what's been reported, I can't reliably get the two subwindows to display. I wanted to keep a New Instance Icon for this but when it's reopened from the icon, only the main window appears. This 'rights' again after PI has been shut down and restarted. Also, I'd like to store a weighting expression in the Expressions window, but this doesn't stick when the instance is preserved in an icon. Thanks!

Hi guys, first up, apologies for the delay. You'd think that an author would have some control or even more information than the general public. Unfortunately, I don't have much to offer. Here's what I can tell you. I have not received my complimentary copies. I've not heard a word about them or my bulk order of 175 books. Yesterday, a customer of ip4 ap.com wrote me with the surprising and upsetting news that although he somehow managed to procure a book from Amazon USA because he had pre-ordered it long ago, the book was misassembled with blocks of pages in the wrong place. Ugh!! Needless to say, I've alerted my editors in New York City about this, and asking what the heck is going on. Geoff, the comment about the spine is not inaccurate. I was told that the big part of the delay was that Springer has switched to a new printer and that we're promised that the quality of the ink and the paper will be better than the first edition, which of course is good news. The bad news was that certain files were not properly updated for the new printer, the spine of the book being among these. Supposedly, it's all sorted out now and hopefully we'll all see second edition books soon. Happy holidays to all, and again, although I have no part in this delay, I apologize for the inconvenience! Thanks for your interest and your continued support.

General / Re: Release 1.8.6 Repeating Crashes
« on: 2018 December 21 10:28:52 »
As promised, I have installed the very latest .1448 on my Windows 10 ASUS laptop and ran a quick BPP LRGB run w/ CosmeticCorrection with no issues at all. The only thing I saw was a red checksum error in the Process Console when I tried to open an instance of BPP from a new instance icon that had been saved in 1.8.5. 1.8.6.1448 working well in Windows 10 on a desktop and a laptop.

Warren, from the beta tester team reporting in. I've had no problems with my desktop and Windows 10. When I get home tomorrow from my PixInsight teaching trip, I will install 1.8.6 on my Windows 10 laptop and report back in.

Rest? what's rest?  ::)
Well, you're a laugh a minute, but you know what it is, at least conceptually, so make sure you get some! Do I sound like your mother? :>)
