Is that an expensive download tool?

General / NRW PROCESSING? + AURORA PROCESSING
« on: 2019 October 04 15:19:25 »
Hi
I'm having problems accessing RAW data images from a Nikon camera (A1000) with images saved as NRW files. I’ve just returned back from Norway with some amazing images of the Northern Lights which I am now trying to process with Pixinsight. I have the preferences set to pure RAW in Format Explorer so the files open up as gray scale ok. But both before and after debayering the data is very noisy and barely recognisable compared to what is viewed on the camera itself.  On another camera (Panasonic Lumix), the saved images are RW2 and I have no problem with these at all (see attached image).
Unfortunately the best images are on the other camera so how can I process NRW files?
Also, has anyone processed Aurora images with Pixinsight (especially getting the right color balance)?
Thanks
David

General / Release 01.08.06 - 2 versions?
« on: 2018 December 22 18:28:38 »
Last week I downloaded the new 01.08.06 version of Pixinsight (01.08.06.1447). Now I saw a new notification saying version 01.08.06.1448 telling me I need to repeat the whole process again.
I can't see any reference on the form regarding two versions of 01.08.06?

Is this a fix to some problems with the 1447 version?

« on: 2018 December 14 16:29:09 »
Hi

Just wondering what the most update was?  My last one was June 2018 and each time I've checked since its says I have the latest version. I've had PI for about 1 year and in the early days thee were regular updates.

Thanks

Hi,
I've got a Dell XPS 15'' 9560 laptop. This has 32 RAM, i7 processor and a 4K screen which makes a huge difference in image quality and color definition. Also the screen is right to the edge of the design so its one of the smallest 15'' laptops available and a 7hr battery life. I use it outdoors and it very durable in extreme cold temperatures down to at least -5 deg C.

Its not available anymore from Dell, they have replaced it with the XPS 9570 with a different processor but the differences aren't huge. Its still possible to get the 9560 on Amazon currently.

Hope this is useful

Rick

Here is the 2x2 binning (I can't seem to add two images at once on this forum - they were not too big either?)

Hi Rick

Thanks for the reply - I do appreciate with 2x2 binning I am oversampling but I still seem to get more detail from deep sky objects with 2x2 compared to 3x3 or 4x4.
Attached are 2 versions of NGC 891 that demonstrate this.
