Help with processing 2x2 binned RGB data with 1x1 binned Luminance data

Hello,

My PI journey continues  and I need some guidance on processing 2x2 binned RGB data with 1x1 binned Luminance data.

Does any one have a work flow for processing this, if not could you point me in the right direction for which process to use?

not too much to do differently - after calibrating the 2x2 images separately from the 1x1 images, you just need to register them to the 1x1 luminance data.

i think, though i'm not 100% sure, that BPP just handles this automatically.

If you don't want to use or aren't using BPP, then the tool to use is Resample.  Resampling is a simple step, but absolutely critical if you shoot 2x2 binned RGBs with a 1x1 binned luminance.  Assuming you are shooting RGBs binned 2x2, then you just open the tool and double the size of your RGB image in both axes.   After that they have the same scale as the 1x1 luminance and everything else should work just fine.

Jim, that would amount to a double interpolation. StarAlignment itself will handle both the registration and the upsizing of the 2x2 bin images.

Point taken.  I have always just done the upscaling separate before the star alignment.

A quick question.
Do 2x2 binned images require 2x2 binned Flats, Darks and Bias?

Hi Mark, yes absolutely. you might be able to get away with resized/software binned flats but it's better to make new ones at the right binning. for darks and bias its really necessary because the sensor characteristics (specifically read noise) will be different at bin 2 vs. bin 1.
