Pre-Processing question
« on: 2016 June 16 03:21:20 »
Hi everyone,

Beginner imager and PI user here.  I have perhaps a trivial question regarding pre-processing.
For the moment, I am using the long way instead of the pre batch script.

I took my image in L+RGB + darks and bias.  My flats in each channel (LRGB).

Would I process and stack my ALL my flats to create a master? Or do I create a master in EACH channel. L master flat, red master flat, green master flat, etc..

If in each channel, would I then match each master flats with L then red, green and blue?

Thanks in advance!

William

William,

If is best practice to do your flats by channel and not combined.  The reason is that you may have dust on the filters that are not consistent across the range.  To get the cleanest image, stack each flat channel set to create separate L, R, G & B master flats, then apply those in the Image Calibration routine as you pre-process each stack of lights.

If you are interested, I have a detailed workbook for PI that I share with others.  If you are interested in my latest version, just drop me a line at jkmorse57@gmail.com and I will be happy to send it along, free of charge of course.

Best,

Jim
Really, are clear skies, low wind and no moon that much to ask for?
