Memory Error (help)
« on: 2016 June 01 08:58:03 »
Hi,

I recently tried to install TVGrestoration and I think I may have goofed.
Now, many tools result in an error attached to this post. At this point the software is unusable. :(
What is the best suggestion for cleaning up everything is (perhaps) reinstalling the TVGrestoration tool properly?

I just played with the new INDI modules using a Raspberry Pi and somehow made a mess of PixInsight. I finished up using 'Uninstall PixInsight' from the PixInsight Platform, reinstalled all the listed updates and everything returned to normal. I suggest you do the same as there can be software 'problems' that can't be diagnosed, especially in Windows, and a clean re-install will usually solve the issue.   It won't take very long at all.

Please note that TVGRestoration is not yet part of the official PixInsight distribution. It is part of an unofficial module under development, so you install and use it at your own risk.

On the other hand, that access violation error is probably being caused by a conflict with your video driver. Similar problems are being reported by some users running PixInsight under Windows 10 on laptops with touch screens. Is this your case?

BTW, I see some additional problems in your screenshot. Your screen resolution (1440x810) is too low to run PixInsight. See our system requirements page.

I see also that you are opening floating point FITS files generated by other applications with arbitrary/undocumented ranges. These images are being loaded incorrectly because PixInsight does not know how to interpret them (see the "rescaling to [0,1]" messages on your console). Just to let you know about an important fact, in case you weren't aware of it.

Hi Juan and all,

Thanks for the help.
Good catch on the resolution- I had it lower because I was recently delivering a presentation with this laptop (yes, now Windows 10)
At full resolution... things are tough to read. :)

Concerning the images... yes, I understand the format of the data. This was my attempt to figure it out (to determine if it was a file corruption problem). The reason I downloaded TVG restoration was to see how it interacted with planetary image- that was the intent and the data was actually working with. Then I went down the road of trying to figure out where I had gone wrong.

I will try to operate at full resolution and see if the problem persists. If so...then I will try to do a clean uninstall. I just performed some tasks at full screen resolution... and there wasn't an error.

Thanks,
Adam
