Hi.
I just purchased a new camera which has some new noise patterns that I didn't have to deal with using an KAF-8300 chip.  Namely it has some kind of fixed pattern noise (FPN) in the darks and there may be RBI.    My ML-8300 darks had almost purely random noise (plus hot pixels) in them and I used the BatchPreProcessing script for calibration. I presume (haven't yet confirmed) that the FPN will be in the lights also and should calibrate out through dark subtraction, but I am really wondering about RBI.   Can some one who uses a camera with these issues tell me whether he is able to use BatchPreProcessing script for successfully dealing with these new effects for me?   Or, do I have to go back to the old days of tedius manual calibration?   That would probably be a big factor on keeping the camera as I didn't expect with this particular camera to have to deal with RBI.
Thanks very much.
Jeff

Have you considered performing a pre-flash?

Btw, I think that Vicent has experience with these artifacts. Let's wait for his reply.

We use a FLI PL16803 with preflash enabled at SRO.  The BPP script works fine so long as dark optimization is disabled and darks match lights for duration.  This is the case also for manual calibration.  Any attempt to do dark scaling will fail to completely remove the swirly preflash patterns.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks very much, Carlos and Rick-
That's good news that BBP still works with preflash. I knew you can't use dark scaling.
Cheers,
Jeff

Should I also be using Dark-flat frames and no bias frames in the BPP script?  Since optimization will be disabled and if RBI preflash will make the dark frames un-scaleable, the darks won't be scaled to the flats frames and I should therefore be taking separate darks for the flats.  Please correct me if I'm getting this wrong.

Thanks

Brendan

I normally calibrate the flats with bias only in a separate BPP run since they are very short subs of varying length.  I load the master bias as well as the master darks when I'm calibrating the lights but as you suggest there's probably no need to do that.

Cheers,
Rick.
