Real-Time Preview 'Flash'
« on: 2015 December 05 07:00:20 »
I hesitate to report this as a 'bug.' Could be some interaction with my video card, etc. I like to toggle the R-T preview on/off to see a before/after view. When I do that, the R-TP window flashes pure white for a second. As not to ruin my night vision, I have to close my eyes. ;>)

Hi Warren,

I cannot reproduce this problem on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. I have no Windows 7 machine at hand now, but I doubt it would be different. Anyway this problem should have been detected in our tests, which are carried out on the three Windows versions.

Hi Juan.
The same problem for me with the new version 1193 on windows 7.
A short white delay toggle on/off real time preview. Larger on wavelets process and very short on histogram or curves.

Another data-point, I have this too, Windows 7 64-bit, 1193.
I'm not considering it a problem or bug, but it is happening.

Sorry Juan- should have specified it's Windows 10! Interesting that albireo00 and Frant are seeing it too. Thanks!

I have also a similar white screen issue, but not the same as those already reported.

When I have set a process in motion, i.e. MT the console pops out and the process starts, then part way through the image screen turns white (just the image window), then when the process completes it returns to show the newly processed image.

It's not a problem, I just thought it may be connected.

Using 1193 on Windows 10

Also happens on my computer. Only seems to happen when I toggle the RTPreview from the process window and usually not the first time I turn it off/on. If I use the toggle in the RTPreview window it does not flash.

Same here on Mac OS 10.10.5 at any tools using Real Time Preview:

- Open the Real Time Preview
- Waiting for the initial render of the Preview
- Clicking the small RTPreview Icon at the left of the tool the Preview screen turns white until it has done the calculations.
- Does not turn white when turning the preview on and off at the top left icon inside the preview

Unfortunately, currently there is no valid fix for this issue. It is the result of a combination of Qt bugs on Windows and OS X. If I fix this problem, then I create others that are much worse on both platforms. Of course this does not happen on the reference Linux implementation.

Anyway, clicking the Real-Time Preview button on a tool window *is not* the appropriate way to perform before/after comparisons, since this forces recalculation of the whole real-time preview rendition. The correct way is to click the "Show transformed image" button on the Real-Time Preview window. There is no "flash" if you click this button.

This issue has been tagged as a low-priority bug, but it will eventually get fixed in a future version. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Juan,

Thanks for the update, and the info on the difference between the two buttons.

Always learning.....
