Debayering and Canon RAW files
« on: 2015 November 21 09:00:25 »
I’m a newbie here, still trying to find my way through information about parameters.  I’m using a simple DSLR, Canon 7D Mk II.  I have read a couple of places that I shouldn't debayer until after calibrating.  If I run the BatchPreprocessing, the console shows a debayer step after the calibration steps.  But I would prefer to heed the warning it issues and do separate steps.

My question is, what if anything do I need to do about debayering?   In this web page http://trappedphotons.com/blog/?p=693 it advises to go to the Format Explorer and click DSLR_RAW and Edit Preferences and choose Pure Raw.

I have done that but I don’t know what if anything I need to do in subsequent steps?

And it may be an unrelated question, but I also have no idea when I should check the CFA box that comes up in some windows.

Thanks for any help!!

The BatchPreprocessing script does deBayer after calibrating; it's doing things the right way.

Here are my newbie's notes on using it:

As you see in another post, I think we need a DSLR version of the BatchPreprocessing script.  It would not be hard to achieve the user-friendliness of DeepSkyStacker combined with the versatility of PixInsight.

Thanks!!

I'd vote for a DSLR version of "PI for Dummies."  I know there are variations in how things can be done, but how about a simple workflow that works well for most cases, with notes and suggestions about variations.  Never mind the theory for now.

Hi,

I think what you need is here: http://www.lightvortexastronomy.com/2015/07/tutorial-pixinsight-pre-processing.html This is part of a bigger PI tutorial:

... but how about a simple workflow that works well for most cases, with notes and suggestions about variations.  Never mind the theory for now.

Here you go http://www.lightvortexastronomy.com/p/tutorials.html Step by step, a very good workflow with lots of good advices without deep theoretical explanation. ;)

Hope it will help you. It definitely did for me.

Thanks to everyone -- I'll dig into these last two now.  Some of my questions about some of the parameters are being answered.
