Error saving project
« on: 2015 November 16 01:36:05 »
Hi, after working on a project and saving it satisfactorily a number of times I am now receiving an error when trying to save the project.
I am running a HP laptop Windows 8.1. The project is being saved to an external USB drive. I also tried saving the project to the local C:\ drive but this did not make any difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,
Rodney

Hi Rodney,

When you modify images in PI it keeps the old versions in the swap area (that's how it can undo an operation quickly.)  These files are included in your project so that when you reload it the history of all the images is preserved.  The error you are getting appears to imply that at least one of those files has gone missing.  It could be an error on your C: drive, or maybe something deleted some of those files.  Did you run any sort of disk clean up utility or do you have one that runs all the time?

If you've lost all the swap files then you're probably out of luck and won't be able to do much apart from saving your individual images and the process icons.  If you've only lost one or maybe a few you might be able to save most of the project apart from the images that are directly affected.  I don't know any clever way to figure this out apart from checking which images you can undo back to their original state one step at a time without error.

That's all I can suggest for now.  Maybe somebody else has better ideas.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Rick, fortunately I was right at the very end of the processing and I have a version of the project that is not too many steps back. I have already saved the final image ok as you suggest.

The only thing that I can think of that may have contributed to this is that I had been away for the new moon weekend when I was doing my processing. I then hibernated the lap top and disconnected the external USB drive prior to returning home. In hibernating the lap top I had also left the PI session open. When I set up at home again I did some tweaks to the image, went to save the project and received the error. In going through these steps PI seems to have lost access to the swap file.

As indicated though, I have the final image and didn't do too much tweaking at the end so no major dramas here.
