Problem with SHO-AIP script

Yes, I think we are all trying to do the same thing.  Last night I collected some nice RGB data for this image (Sh2 119):



If I have some time today. I'll try to use the star masks etc. and see what happens.  I have the steps printed out as a checklist. 

I want this to set up properly since I have a long term project of imaging the Sharpless2 objects with my Tak 180ED since it really picks up the H-alpha fast and well.  Just want to add nice colored stars to the H-alpha.. the various scripts help but they do not get the right colors.  If you look at the various attempts on my Astrobin site you'll see the struggle.

Well, I started processing and as soon as I started making the star mask I ran into a zillion stars plus the nebulosity.... not clear where to go from here....

I'm having a hard time seeing your screen shot. It looks like your working with the individual narrowband grayscale images. Want I would do is work only with the color images. Are you also saying your picking up nebulosity with star mask? Is there anyway you could place a crop of images both processed RGB and processed Narrowband that contain large and small stars and some nebulosity in something like dropbox. I'd be more then happy to do the process and so the steps in a pdf.

I went ahead and did the same thing using one of my images. I changes the colors to represent a narrowband(don't laugh) image. I then took the same shot but the rgb with ok stars. The result is image AB. I made a video that shows what I did. Use whatever method you want for the star mask. I just like using a structure mask.

Thanks I see what you did.  Will have to do a step by step set of notes...  I am impressed.  This Pi is very powerful....  I now have very good data on 10+ SN2 objects and want to get them all in combo mode.  The most challenging so far is Sh2 216. 

Do you have any experience with MorphologicalTransformation?  The AIP-SHO script uses it to cut down the size of S-II stars... exactly the problem I have with the Pelican.  Slowly getting there, by trial and error.

Mike spent some good Labor Day time with this today and it does seem to work, now that I understand the principles.  But the devil is in the details [again] of getting stars to be the same sizes...  I have a subsidiary problem in that these objects have a lot of background H-alpha which puts a red tinge on the field... hard to distinguish the objects and if you stretch too much you blow out or distort the stars...

Using you technique I get similar results to that of the other scripts but any of these results depends on how the stars are handled....

I have very good weather right now so will try to get more data for these faint objects...

Hope you get some good imaging in while the weather cooperates. We're in the thick of the tropical weather cycle here so probably no meaningful imaging for another month.

I use MorphologicalTransformation mostly for fill in cases rather then reduction. Probably because my own images are very equipment and environment limited. I really need to spent more time learning how to use Morph to it's fullest.
