Hi, I a reposting here, initial thread related to previous build was in announcement section.

Drag function doesn't work.
As soon as the label of one image is clicked and dragged , an "x" appears at the cursor position.
cloning, masking or duplicating previews don't work throug drag and drop.

The same apply for processes: dragging the triangle doesn't work.

I had to switch back to 1.8.3, which works as expected.

Windows7 64 bit

Thank you,
Andrea

I can't reproduce this, with Win8. I'll try to find a Win7 machine to try again.

well,
i don't know why but 1.8.3 works on my workstation and 1.8.4 doesn't.
Moving back and forth from 1.8.3 and 1.8.4 proves that.

As my former configuration has goone, Could be a configuration issue?
I tried playing in the global settings but haven't got any result.

Thank you,
Andrea

Just to try something, launch PI with the Ctrl key pressed. Then reset all the settings when asked. If it is something related with the configuration, this should return all to factory settings, and regain control over the drag operation. Anyhow, I don't believe this is the case.

Is there anything peculiar on your computer? Input devices, displays, etc?

I can't reproduce this behavior either, on Windows 7 and 8.1.

PixInsight 1.8.4 requires a working OpenGL ES 2.0 implementation, with OpenGL capable hardware and drivers, on all supported platforms. Could this be an issue with your graphics card and/or driver?

Thank you Carlos and Juan.
I will check later when get home.

My pc is quite "normal":

Lenovo E31 workstation
I7
32 Gb ram
Nvidia Quadro (i think it is the Quadro 600, that should support OpenGL 4.4)
Monitor: LG 27 inches, about 2560x1600(need to check the exact resolution)
SSD disk
wireless keyboard
wi fi N key
bluetooth mouse
an ultrium tape drive (which I don't use anymore)
a netgear Lan storage, with gigabit direct connection (normally powered off)

I don't think it is the case, but how can I check the openGL version? is this a new requirement different form 1.8.3?

Thank you again,
Andrea

Yes. Version 1.8.3 didn't make use of any hardware graphics acceleration. In version 1.8.4, OpenGL is necessary for most screen renditions. OpenGL ES 2.0 has rather baseline requirements, so it should be available on virtually any working system, on any operating system.

The problem you are experiencing is extremely strange. In the past I have seen really weird things caused by wireless devices. Could you try with a wired keyboard? I know this sounds odd, but I wouldn't discard this possibility.

Juan & Carlos,
I tried the configuration reset but it didn't work.
I also updated to the last driver version, but no luck.

The G adapter is quite capable:

there are a number of profiles for 3d to chose from, don't know if you can suggest something (I am attaching a screenshot)
there is also the possibility to create a much more detailed profile for every application.
the only two application detected were photoshop (I use it for daylight pictures, no worries:-)) and Remote desktop.
I liked Pixinsight and the tool pre-populated with some settings, but I don't know if this is correct.
I can send a picture of these settings too.

For the keyboard, I can make the test only in 2 weeks time: I am living in two days for vacation and that's the only keyboard I have.

thank you,
Andrea

Hi, I did some test.
I disconnected the keyboard and worked only with mouse, but this didn't change the situation.
Also tried several configuration for the graphical adapter, no changes.
updated the driver to the very last version.

Just to add a piace of info, when hoovering over an image the cursor arrow changes into a cross. moving the cross over the image doesn't show a fluid movement but sometimes "blink".
when going to the image border the cursor changes into an horizontal arrow and if I start dragging an "X" appear just on the side of the arrow.
please note that the cursor "catches" the image label, that is dragged around (semi-transparent) but it is not "received" by the workspace or an image.

I have found at list one case in wich dragging works: if I click on one image banner and drag, this works.

Thank you,
Andrea

Juan & Carlos,

I performed a few more tests:
Unfortunately switching to a wired keyboard didn't help.

I tried to install PI on kubuntu on a second ssd and , besides my problems with Linux, it works on my hardware.

Is there anything I can do to help you understand the issue?
I can disable the video card, even if nvidia should be the best choice for PI.
I can also make a short video to let you visualize the issue better.

Please let me know if I can do anything more.
Thank you
Andrea

Hi, sorry to pop this thread up again.

I upgraded to W10 and the issue is gone.
As it was very specific, I wanted to inform you so you can assign this the right priority and decide if worth of further investigations.

Hi Andrea,

Thank you so much for letting me know. The problems that you were experiencing, as in the rest of weird problems reported on Windows, are being caused by poor and/or outdated graphics drivers. Version 1.8.4 makes use of OpenGL acceleration for GUI rendering, while 1.8.3 does not. Unfortunately, many Windows installations lack drivers with good OpenGL ES 2.0 support. The next 1.8.4 version is more robust to these problems.

Juan,
may be we have a clue!

by chance i started PI in windows 10 and realized that the issue is again hitting my Pixinsight (although I now have my fedora install).

I tried several things and none of these worked, but:

clicked on full screen icon and the problem disappeared.
switching from full screen to normal put the issue back.

hope this heps
Andrea

Hi,

Don't know if it's related but I got this issue when running the app as administrator in Win8 and Win10.
Went away as soon as switched back to running as normal user.

Rich.
