Has PixInsight been certified for Windows 10?
« on: 2015 June 24 11:11:42 »
A "Get Windows 10 Free" app just showed up on both my desktop and laptop.  I ran the app that checked my compatible and incompatible applications, but PixInsight wasn't listed among either group.  Has it been certified, or will it be by the July 29 when Windows 10 is distributed?  And does anyone know what happened to Windows 9 8)?

i heard that they didn't want to call it windows 9 incase there are programs that try to determine if they are running on windows 95 testing for the string "Windows 9". i guess there were variants of windows 9 (supposedly there was a windows 97...) and so that was a lazy test that worked at the time.

don't know if it's true but i can believe it...

Thanks, pfile.  Any idea about Windows 10 certification for PI?

Had been running PI on the Developer's preview on an I7 machine.  I'll check if it is still running on the latest builds.  I had to roll back the latest build on another machine.

I just tried it and it did not activate.....

I am not sure W10 is ready for prime time next month and would not rush in.  Supposedly the kernel will change but most of the drivers will remain the same was W7 and W8.1.  It will automatically update and W10 may be the last version... like OS X with Macs.

If you have a secondary machine, may want to try it there first.

This is a good place for some of the inside story:

A bad thing IMHO is the lack of the W7 backup and disk image system... depreciated in 8.1...

Latest build for me is 10074
