Tricks with Image Plate Solver Script

Like to get this to work with this obect laden image:



But it will not solve.  This and parent image solve just fin in TSX and Astrobin.

What could I be doing wrong?  I try to enter the date... maybe that is off because images were taken over a week...

Thanks, appear to be closer copying your settings, but I get instead the enclosed output... seems to be only errors.  Is there a second step after solving?

I think that you are confusing the errors image with the result of the script. The result of ImageSolver is not a new image but it is data which is written in the FITS tags of the target image. It doesn't change the image in any visible way. After a successful execution ImageSolver you can use AnnotateImage for drawing objects on the image.

If you select the option "Genate Residuals Image" it also generates an additional image which can be used to check the quality of the solution.

You beat me to the punch. Jerry all I did was run ImageSolver and then AnnotateImage, just those. I created the grayscale annotated image using PixelMath. There are many possible settings for AnnotateImage in the text labeling, markers and catalogs use. Here is the AnnotatedImage settings I used for your image.

One other thing, I used your full resolution image from Astrobin. I have always found it better to use the highest resolution image for solver and annotate. Then if needed I Resample down the final annotated image.

I have a few images on my Astrobin page that are annotated with PI using many different settings. Andres has created a very versatile set of tools.

Andres also gave me the idea in one of his earlier posts somewhere else in the forum about making a whole sky chart. One of my favorite images I created is from Andres StarCatalogGenerator script and the AnnotateImage script. A little complex at first but very cool.

Keep playing with his scripts because they can do a lot!

Thanks very much.  finally go it, but I feel like the British in WWI working on the Enigma Machine... decoding how to do this.  Maybe this thread will be helpful to others....

I need to learn to download, edit and locally load some of the different catalogs. I'd like to limit the magnitude limits for the PGC/NGC-IC objects.

You can make your own custom catalogs using a text editor or an spreadsheet. The instructions are in this message:

The script has also the capability of generating the annotation as a SVG image. You can modify the SVG with an editor (like Inkscape) where you can delete objects, move overlapping labels or adding new texts. Then you can overlay the SVG with your image.

I've done the SVG route before. I have such poor seeing that a custom PGC/NGC-IC catalogs would be better and simpler for the long term.  I want to make some charts for objects that I can image from my home without being confused with fainter fuzzies!

The message you pointed to is what I needed. A lot of good information to digest.

Thanks for some great scripts. Nice being able to stay within PI!
