Masters Gray or RGB?
« on: 2015 March 01 00:59:45 »
Good day!
I'm a new user and there are a couple of question of which I should like a bit of clarification:

I image with an EOS1100D Dsrl_Raw settings in PI are to 'pure Raw'
My master darks bias, flats and all the lightsFrames will be because of this be of the GRAY type.

I do not use the batch processing script at the moment.

The question is:
Is it better to debayer the master darks ,bias, flats and all the lightsFrames each separately first, and then do the calibrating bit, or first do the calibration and then the debayering?

Or may be wait even longer and do the Debayering after the registration/alignment.

Or even wait until after the integration is done to do the debayering?
This last way looks to my it will keep the file size smaller and be less processor intensive. but I do not know if it will yield correct results.

What it the better way?

Thanks and clear skies
Marco

Debayering takes place AFTER image calibration, and before registration. You want to calibrate the untouched raw pixel data.

You could also use bayer drizzle integration, which avoids debayering interpolation altogether. Although you need many well dithered subs for this to be effective (>20).

You really should consider using the BatchPreprocessing script. Or do you have a specific reason for not doing so?

Hi,
Thanks fir the input!
Debayering after calibration ok thanks.

The reason I am not using the BatchPreprocessing script it is just because I am trying to understand how PI is working.
And by doing the preprocessing in separate steps there are much options available and it is easier to understand what is doing what.....

Let's also be clear that only Lights are debayered, never bias or dark frames. Though there has been debate, flats are typically not debayered either, and automated software, including PI knows this.
Best always, Warren
