Problem with recent updates to PI
« on: 2014 December 24 06:34:10 »
Last night when opening PI I was greeted by the not unfamiliar notice that updates were ready to be downloaded and installed.  This latest update package listed 7 packages to download.  Upon checking the "Accept All" button the download proceeded normally until I got the warning notice "6 updates successful - 1 failed".  The only choice at that moment was to accept the notice at which time the notice changed to the usual Changes will take effact upon the exiting the Core program.  This I did successfully.

Then thinking that if I tried to access updates again the failed file may be available and I could try again.  But when I tied this I got the notice that no updates are available.

Since I have PI on both my laptop and my desktop I went through the update routine on th eother machine.  Same scenario as before with 6 and 1 failure.

Watching more closely this time, I noticed that 2 of the files appeared to have identical names. But I couldn't confirm if it was this that caused the failure.  If it was merely a "repeat" then the failure would be obvious and of no real effect since one of the copies was successful.  But I felt this needed to be brought to the PI Teams attention to confirm this scenario.

FYI:  My operating system is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

Chris

Chris / Larry, I installed it without problems. If you use windows could be necessary to deactivate the antivirus during the download.
The attached image shows all the updates for the current version. Check if you have the same.
Saludos y felices fiestas
Alejandro.

I am missing the FITS Module version 1.1.2.288 update.  When I click Check for Updates it says I am up to date.  How does one try again?  This is the first failure I have had and there is nothing new regarding anti virus on my system.  Why would this one fail for that reason?

Hi Larry, I don't know. Better wait Juan to see this.

Only to check, go to PixInsight>bin folder and see what is the date of FIT-pxm.so file.

Saludos, Alejandro.

The Fits-pxm file is dated 12/5 so it is the old one.  Btw it is a .dll file, not a .so file

Hi Larry,
Btw it is a .dll file, not a .so file
That is because you use windows and I use Linux.
Saludos, Alejandro.

Alejandro:

Your updates are for Linux.  Ours are for Windows.  Different issue.

Still, if an update fails it should be available again for another attempt.  It isn't...

Well... On a whim while reading this forum , I decided to open PI and lo and behold! there is 1 update file that appears to be the one that failed earlier.  This time it updated normally.

I assume someone on the PI team jumped on this problem as soon as they heard about it and swiftly corrected the issue.  Whoever you are, Thanks!

Merry Christmas to all of you!  :D

This time it worked.  All is right with the world again.  At least with PixInsight.
