Canot save changes to project (updated)
« on: 2014 December 10 15:23:42 »
Hello

I have a 6 month old project and can not save the changes I recently made to it.

I get a pop-up message (see attachment) and a "failed" message on the console.

Not sure this is a bug or something I am doing wrong now or even something that could happen 6 months ago when I created the project

Update:
I also tried to load the project and without changes save it to another name, getting same results

Regards
Geert

Ok, found the bug myself:

If star align process icon does not have images to align (place holder)
In the later versions of PI it cannot be saved.

I had to save one by one the star align icons in my project to find the problematic one. (there were a lot on them because it is a mosaic).

Se as example the problematic starAlign icon I had

Hi Geert,

I have check this, and I can save projects with empty StarAlignment icons like yours without problems on all platforms.

It must be something else in this old project. If you can upload the .xosm file I can try to fix it.

Hello Juan
After removing this process icon I could save the project....
Fortunately I conserved the original  (attached).

I have exactly the same problem. Running latest PI, with the latest projects. Getting the same error.
Unlike the previous case nothing has helped, even complete removing StarAlignment process.

it is the third time in the past month, with different projects. I'm loosing all the data and also an ability to reprocess the images in future.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Similar problem. In my case, Ron Brecher was helping me with a lengthy data processing exercise. Project saved the process steps and icons but none of the interim or final images. All I have left is an *.xosm file, the original raw data and a final JPEG. It's a material loss because I had retained Ron's services for this exercise and was looking forward to examining again in detail what he had done. I attach the text from the Process Console generated when I tried to open the Project.

Have you installed *all* the updates available for version 1.8.3?

Please do the following:

- From the main menu, select: Process > Modules > Manage Modules

- On the Manage Modules dialog, select the ImageRegistration module.

- Check that you have version 01.10.03.0441

I have exactly the same problem. Running latest PI, with the latest projects. Getting the same error.

This problem has nothing to do with the issue reported by the OP.

It looks that you don't have the .data folder required for this project, or perhaps the data have been removed or corrupted for some reason. No images can be loaded simply because they don't exist. From your console log:

Code: [Select]
* Loading images
Reading image: Ha
*** Error: No such file exists on the local filesystem: D:/STT-8300M Images/TARGETS/SH2-188/NGC188 HaRGB Jan 2015.data/RKK3GFH16-000001 (line=2199,column=17)
* Loading images
Reading image: Aggregated
*** Error: No such file exists on the local filesystem: D:/STT-8300M Images/TARGETS/SH2-188/NGC188 HaRGB Jan 2015.data/RKK3GFH16-000003 (line=2217,column=17)

The same errors are reported for all the images in your project. So this is a problem with nonexistent files.

Hi Juan,

Thanks for the reply. No, I didn't install all the updates. There is 18 updates available at this time, but I'm getting update error on every attempt. It started two months ago, before this everything was ok.
ImageRegistration module is version is 01.10.03.0440.

Any Ideas?

David

Hi David,

Installing *all* the available updates is absolutely necessary. What do you mean by "update error"?

Usually this error means that you don't have the required permissions to write update packages. On OS X, you should update PixInsight from an "administrator" user account.

An alternative solution can be:

- From the main menu, select: Edit > Global Preferences

- On the Preferences interface, select the "Directories and Network" item on the left side.

- Under the "Downloads directory" field, click "Select directory..." and change the default "/tmp" to a folder where you have read/write access. For example, a folder that you can create on your home folder.

- Press F6 to apply the tool.

This should fix the problem.

Thanks Juan.
I'm logged as administrator. Have tried several directories instead of default, same result..

Hi David,

The "Can't find required component(s)" error is always caused by insufficient permissions to write to a folder where update packages are stored temporarily during the update process. Check that you have enough permissions on the directory you have selected for download operations (/tmp by default).
