Cannot open tiff-files greater than 2GB
« on: 2014 November 17 11:19:32 »
I'm trying to open an large tiff-image in Pixinsight.
The file is 2.02GB and I got the error:

*** Error: TIFF: Seek error at scanline 12414, strip 4139
*** PCL Exception: PCL TIFF Format Support: Error reading TIFF file: Q:/!Out/2014-11-11 - AstropanoTF/pano0_zip.tif
Unable to read image: Q:/!Out/2014-11-11 - AstropanoTF/pano0_zip.tif
<* failed *>

The error seems similar to this bug dating back to 2011:

Files under 2GB load fine. Photoshop opens the 2.02GB-Tiff without Problems.

I'm using Pixinsight 01.08.03.1115 Ripley (x64) under Windows 7 64bit. The filesystem is NTFS.

Hope you can help,

Silvio.

Hi Silvio,

Bug confirmed. This is a regression in the Windows versions of PixInsight, resulting from the update to a new version of LibTIFF. The FreeBSD, Linux and Mac OS X versions don't have this problem.

This is now fixed in the new version that we'll release tomorrow. Thank you for discovering this issue.
