Problem posting to gallery
« on: 2014 October 23 20:27:52 »
I have tried several times to upload an image (412kb only) using two different computers.  I just can't get it to upload.

1) I start a new topic. 2) I type a short narrative. 3) I browse for the image I selected making sure it is under 500kb. 4) I hit the "POST" button.

Then the screen goes completely white.  After waiting as long as 10 minutes, the screen is still white.  Trying the browser "refresh" or "back" commands gives me an error message stating that I have already submitted my post, even though I haven't tried to resubmit.

What am I doing wrong?

Due to the size limits, I have just started using Google Drive.  Its free, and all you have to do is set the image so that anyone can view it on the web then copy the link to your post.  Best part is there is no size limit.  I just did it with an image in the Gallery (Pleiades using MaskedStretch, if you want to see how it works).  May be worth a try.

Best,

Jim

What would the choice of browser have to do with the problem?  But I'll give it a try.

Switched from Explorer to Google Chrome.  Still a failure.  File size was a JPEG of only 411k.

Well... The Photobucket link seemed to work.   At any rate the image is my first attempt at an HDR composite.  16 x 300 seconds, 10 x 200 seconds, 10 x 20 seconds.  No more blown out core in M42.  (Still need to work on my color and sharpening skills though...)

Hi Chris,

Be sure that the extension of the file is included in the allowed files and also try to post the same image as a zip file.

Saludos, Alejandro.

I did.  It was a ".jpg" of only 411K.  Using the "Attachments and other options" button below simply does not work on either of two different computers, both running Windows 7 professional.  I tried Windows Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox.

The only thing that seems to work is for me to load the file into a site like Photobucket, Dropbox, or DeviantArt then using the little "inset image" con paste in the URL of the image from one of those sites.

well there are a lot of scripts running behind the scenes so it's possible there's an incompatibility between the forum software and the particular browser you are using. but in this case it does not seem to have been the problem…

Hmm.  I have Norton Internet Security running on both machines.  Do you think that may be the source of the problem?

Oh well... At least I found a method of posting images, albeit NOT with the Attachments button.  So, as poor as it is, what did you think of my first HDR Composite?

looks pretty good but something funny happened in the core with the color. did you tell HDRMultiscaleTransform to operate on L only?

L only?  No.  Should I have done that?  I worked in RGB.
