License Transfer
« on: 2014 October 08 08:10:27 »
Hi all,

It seems I will soon be in a position to facilitate a transfer of a PI license from one party to another.

I've scanned the license FAQ, and haven't found guidance there.

How should I go about this, and what do I need to make sure we accomplish.

Considerations/knowns :

  • I already have the license file in my possession
  • I have all the pertinent license information I can give to PI to identify the license for transfer.
  • The license is being donated by a previous license holder who is leaving the hobby.
  • The current license holder wants to be sure that his/her email address and contact information are removed from the license, and replaced with the info from the new licensee, without that information becoming known by the new licensee.  In short, current license holder wishes to remain anonymous to the recipient throughout this process.

Questions :

  • Who to contact?  A message sent via the website's contact form has gone unanswered.
  • Would it be acceptable to transfer the license via some sort of lottery/raffle, or is the exchange of money prohibited?
  • Any particular restrictions to be aware of?

This is simply a case of a hobbyist exiting the hobby, and wanting to transfer his/her license to someone who will make good use of it.  Just want to make sure this is being done in the right way, and not violating either the letter or intent of the license agreement.

I had, it seems, overlooked section 4 of the EULA

Quote
4. This End User License will be strictly personal, non-transferable and
non-exclusive, and does not under any circumstance confer ownership thereof. You
may not rent, lease, lend, redistribute, transfer or sublicense the Software or
its use.

Looks like I have my answer.
