Author Topic: Problem with FIT file from another program, trying to convert for PI  (Read 3065 times)

By mistake last night I had Sequence Generator Pro saving my images as .fit files instead of the Canon CR2 raw files. My darks, flats, and bias files were raw files which PI converts to FITS using the BatchFormatConversion script. When I try to stack the light frames in the BPP script the integrated image comes out all wrong. When I use PI to convert all files to FIT there is no problem. Looking at the resulting integrated image, it's like they are rotated 180 degrees from the flats as there are identical dust motes on both sides of the image. The color seems all wrong too (blue, even with no STF applied) but maybe that's just my inexperience imaging in Ha.

I don't know what is wrong with the file in order to fix it. Here is a link to one of them:

When I try to convert it with PI it gives an error and stops.

Any help greatly appreciated. I would like to use these as they were not easy to get. I have 27 x 900s frames of M33 using a Ha filter in my DSLR.

Thanks,
Chris

the fits reader direction is backwards.

open the format explorer, double click on fits, then change the reader direction.

but this will make PI incompatible with all the masters you've made, at least temporarily, while the fits reader direction is backwards.

Thanks but I don't see anything that says reader direction. I found Coordinate origin under miscellaneous options. I changed it from up-bottom to bottom-up but it doesn't change the error. I'm trying to convert them so I can use them with my current darks, flats, bias frames.

yeah sorry, it's what you found, bottom-up vs up-bottom.

actually you say "when i try to convert it with PI it gives an error and stops." but also BPP parses the fits files ok? what do you mean by "convert it"?

The BPP script runs fine, its just the final integrated image is screwed up. There are symmetrical dust motes and splotches on either side of the image. And the flats aren't working at all to get rid of the defects. I took new flats this morning before making this. I've had this problem before and the only way I fixed it was to just take new images in CR2 format and then convert everything with PI. I just screwed up this time by having SGPro convert to FITS and I'm trying to salvage the data (if possible). Unfortunately, SGPro doesn't keep the camera raw files if I tell it to do the conversion.

Here is the integrated light frame (unprocessed):

Give it a few minutes to upload to dropbox.

Thanks for the help,
