Having trouble with LinearFit for building mosaic
« on: 2014 September 20 17:41:09 »
I have a 3 panel mosaic and I just can't get the panels to be of even brightness (or even close) so the lines don't show. It's been recommended I use the LinearFit tool but when I put one in as reference and apply to the other, it just comes out completely red, or sometimes black with no image any longer. I was doing it after doing DBE and BN but should I do it somewhere else in the process? I'm trying to do it on the completed stacks. Is that not possible? Do the stacked images/panels have to registered/aligned for the mosaic first?

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks but there is a problem. The link to the video is dead. No file.

I'll have to search around I guess.

I found the video on YouTube. I have watched that one before and use that technique to build the mosaic but it really doesn't address (that I remember) how to equalize the levels of each panel. I'm also working with a DSLR and color images so it may be somewhat trickier. I'll watch it again tonight.

Here is what I've built so far and processed. I think it looks OK but I know where the panel lines are.

Hello chris.

The mosaic looks very good so far.

You are right, the seams are visible.
There are a couple of things you can play with in order to fix that:

- ensure there are no unwanted (brighter or darker) borders  on the images before registering them for the mosaic.
- you can play with the  width, increasing it may help to hide the seam.
- there are two options to build the mosaic one is overlapping, the other is merging/averaging (I prefer merging).

Also, after registering, you must ensure there is a perfect match between the stars of the overlapping areas, you can inspect this by overlaying the pannels, click and hold on the top image header, it becomes half transparent...

Hope this hepls you.
