Convert CR2 files to FITs
« on: 2014 August 08 17:58:45 »
Hi,

My Canon 60D produces images in CR2 format of 5184 * 3456 pixels.  When I convert them in PI, I get frames of 5202 * 3465.  I note that DCRAW is reporting full size of 5344*3516, thumbsize of 5184*3456 and image size of 5202*3465 in the process console.  This difference makes subtracting darks etc difficult if frames have been generated by other capture software.

How do I force PI to generate same frame size as Canon (and Lightroom).

Scott

I recommend to you do all (deBayer, masters generations, calibration, etc) inside of PI. Keep everything in family is best for compatibility.  :)

Greetings,

Enzo.

Don't know if it's still relevant anymore but this may help http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=1911.0 .  TheSkyX Pro with the camera add on will produce Canon Fits to begin with.

If you can (if the capture software has this option) always try to keep the CR2 RAW files.  There is overscan in the files and the actual res is more than 5184 x 3456.  If you're going to use FITS, then have the same software create the FITS for all frame types just to avoid any potential issues.  I worked around this one time by setting the overscan area in calibration, but honestly, would've just been easier to stick with all RAW files.
